Price

The Founders Edition version of the card employs a dual-fan thermal solution (some RTX 3060 Ti cards are triple-fan models) and it’s priced at $399. If you prefer clean, minimalist designs, this will be the RTX 3060 Ti you want, and at 9.5 inches long, it’s one of the most compact options.

Asus also crafted a non-overclocked version of this card (the ROG Strix RTX 3060 Ti Gaming) that runs at just 1,695MHz, but it’s otherwise identical, so some amount of overclocking headroom on the non-OC card is likely. The OC version is priced at $499.99; no price has been set for the non-OC model at this time.

Design & Ports

ASUS KO NVIDIA has moderate size. Its dimension is 10.83 x 5.31 x 2.13 inches and weights around 2.4 pounds. You only need a single 8-pin PCIe power connector, which is great — equal to the RTX 3060 Ti FE, and better than other custom cards on the market that require dual 8-pin PCIe connectors. ASUS includes expanded display outputs on the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, with 3 x DP 1.4 and 2 x HDMI 2.1 connectors.

Frame rates

Metro Exodus dips into 35-36FPS territory, not playable IMO — while Shadow of the Tomb Raider is above 60FPS average with 64FPS stock and 73FPS average on the ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3060 Ti OC Edition. In Shadow of War the card beats the RTX 2080 SUPER but loses to the RTX 3070 and RTX 2080 Ti cards — still, we have 74-79FPS average at 4K here which is easily playable in a game like Shadow of War.

Temperature & Power consumption

Power consumption is perfectly in line with other GeForce RTX 3060 Ti cards, with the entire Ryzen 7 3800X system using 300W under load and up to 330W or so when overclocked. The ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3060 Ti OC Edition was running at just 56C — which is actually quiet cool under load, while the overclocked card with fans at 100% saw it drop to 48C.

Cooling

ASUS went with a full coverage metal backplate (aluminum) on this card and it looks great. near the end of the protective metal backplate is a hole and this is used to help vent and to prevent heat buildup.

Three axial-tech dual ball bearing fans were used with the GPU cooler on the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card. Fan rotation has been optimized for reduced turbulence as the outer fans spin one direction and center fans spins opposite.

Overclocking

The central unit runs at 1410 MHz and goes up to 1785 MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of Second Gen GDDR6 through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Total memory bandwidth is 448GB/s.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Bottom line: The NVIDIA RTX 3070 is the best mid-range GPU you can buy right now if you can find it for sale. It rivals the RTX 2080 Ti in terms of performance, yet it costs far, far less money.

Memory: 8GB GDDR6 | Memory bus: 256-bit | Base clock: 1.50GHz | Boost clock: 1.73GHz | CUDA cores: 5,888 | Process: 8nm | Power: 220W

If you can find any version of the RTX 3070 listed at a reasonable price, grab it. Stock is severely limited.

Pros
  • RTX 2080 Ti performance for far less
  • Easily handles 1440p
  • Will run 4K
  • Ray tracing and DLSS
  • Great for those on a budget
Cons
  • Just 8GB of VRAM
  • Less raw performance than RX 6800

With the GeForce RTX 3070, NVIDIA has managed to deliver performance nearly on par with the RTX 2080 Ti, except this time the card costs around $500 when not being scalped. That’s a huge achievement, and anyone who aims for the mid-range PC market should be happy. A year ago, before NVIDIA’s other 30-series GPUs and AMD’s RX 6000 cards, the RTX 3070 would have broken the internet. Have a look at our picks for best NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPUs for a bunch of great buying options.

It is, however, still using 8GB of VRAM. If that’s an issue for you, check out AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 with 16GB of VRAM and a similar cost. We’ve even compared the two in a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 vs. AMD Radeon RX 6800 showdown.

There are 5,888 CUDA cores packed into the RTX 3070, more than double that of the RTX 2070 SUPER. It also benefits from RTX enhancements like ray tracing and DLSS AI, boosting frame rates significantly in compatible games.

In any case, if you can get your hands on this card, your 1440p gaming experience will take off. The RTX 3070 can handle 4K, but you’ll see much better results with a QHD monitor.
