Design

The faceplate around the fan mounts seems to be in the silver finish though sometimes. The card has a 2.5 slot design with having a dimension of 286x115x51mm (LxWxH). The shroud is as simple as it could get but it is sleek and stylish. This version of GA104 has 96 ROPs and 184 TMUs. We have 5888 shader units. The Pixel fill rate is 174.2 GP/s and the Texture fill rate is 334 GT/s. It has 17400M transistors using 8nm technology having a die size of 392mm².

Ports

The front of the card features three alternate spinning fans that bring fresh air to the heatpipe system. It’s a full two PCI-e slots wide and sports two Display Port 1.4a connections and two HDMI 2.1 connections.

The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G turned in a performance of 57 FPS which barely trailed the AMD Radeon RX 6800 by 0.6 FPS. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G boosted performance to 59 FPS.

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, because all of the cards performed so well, we went ahead and turned on Ray Tracing for testing at 1440p. Temperature

The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G’s default fan curve is set to maintain 65 degrees Celsius. That was cooler than the AMD Radeon RX 6800 that leveled out at 70 degrees Celsius but warmer than the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti at 57 degrees Celsius. With the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G maxed out on both core clock and fans, it dropped to 59 degrees Celsius.

Cooling

GIGABYTE is utilizing its WINDFORCE 3X cooling setup that consists of a cooling system features 3x80mm fans with unique fan blades that spin in alternate directions and 5 copper heat pipes that directly touch the GPU. GIGABYTE says that fans spinning in alternate directions can reduce the turbulence of adjacent fans and increase air pressure.

Power consumption

The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G sipped power in comparison to the other cards at 411W at the wall. Overclocking the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G added a mere 7W to its total draw. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 was a watt higher at 424W with the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti jumping ahead to 509W of power.

Overclocking

GIGABYTE has given the GeForce RTX 3070 VISION OC 8G a factory overclock of 90MHz on the boost clock, bringing it from the stock 1725MHz up to 1815MHz. Keep in mind that the boost clock is a target based upon power, workload, and temperature and that value will typically be exceeded via the card’s boosting algorithm NVIDIA GPU Boost. It also sports 8GB of 14GHz GDDR6 memory that is equal in speed to the reference specifications. GIGABYTE does not publish the TGP, but we do expect it to be a fair bit higher than the reference 220W TGP.

It’s a 3070! (3700x, 32GB RAM)

Chonky card, you’re probably gonna want to pick up some sort of brace for this, or get a really nice case with sideways mounting maybe, but she’s got guts! Card is very uh, white, for the lack of a better term, the pictures sorta don’t really do it justice. Gigabyte “RGB” is unevenly lit, but I don’t stare at the card when I’m playing games.
Fan noise is pretty quiet, but definitely ramps up during CP2077, but really knocks that out of the park. Except with Raytracing turned on, that’s really bad and doesn’t honestly add enough to the visual experience to justify a 50%+ frame tax.
But DLSS is neat! If you wanna do 4K, you can get playable frames with it enabled. Mostly I just stuck to 1440p Medium with DLSS off, you stay pretty comfortably even out in the city in the 80-100fps range, and it looks fine to me. Turn DLSS on Performance and you’ll shoot up to the 120-130 range, not bad for a quick frame hack.
3080’s not really worth the bang for buck over this, and don’t even get me started on the 3090. But I picked this up for about $580, and I can definitely recommend at that price point if you’re upgrading from something like a 1660 Super (I was) and want to catch up and stay caught up.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

The NVIDIA RTX 3070 is the best mid-range GPU you can buy right now if you can find it for sale. It rivals the RTX 2080 Ti in terms of performance, yet it costs far, far less money.

If you can find any version of the RTX 3070 listed at a reasonable price, grab it. Stock is severely limited.

With the GeForce RTX 3070, NVIDIA has managed to deliver performance nearly on par with the RTX 2080 Ti, except this time the card costs around $500 when not being scalped. That’s a huge achievement, and anyone who aims for the mid-range PC market should be happy. A year ago, before NVIDIA’s other 30-series GPUs and AMD’s RX 6000 cards, the RTX 3070 would have broken the internet.

There are 5,888 CUDA cores packed into the RTX 3070, more than double that of the RTX 2070 SUPER. It also benefits from RTX enhancements like ray tracing and DLSS AI, boosting frame rates significantly in compatible games. It is, however, still using 8GB of VRAM.
