INNOCN portable monitor touchscreen review

Build

The aluminum frame blends seamlessly with the glass panel; the latter is glossy and therefore prone to fingerprint and reflections. The lower bezel is thicker than the other three and is where most of the electronics can be found.

Design

The INNOCN 15K1F OLED Portable Monitor is one of the slimmest on the market. At only 0.27-inch thick, it can slip into even a narrow briefcase pocket. And at only 1.6 pounds, you’ll barely notice you’re carrying more than just your laptop. The housing is a silver-grey plastic, with a smooth, easy-to-clean matte finish.

Stand

The cover/stand that is included is very similar to a typical tablet cover/stand. The cover folds back and becomes a stand for the monitor.

Ports

The Innocn PF15-PRO monitor supports USB Type-C and Mini-HDMI video connections. Although I connected the monitor via HDMI, I did test it with a Type-C connection as well. There is also a 2nd Type-C connection that can be used to provide touchscreen control when using HDMI.

Display

The screen itself has a diagonal measurement of 15.6 inches, which is comparable to a medium-large laptop screen. The INNOCN 15K1F has a full HD 1080p resolution. The refresh rate of 60Hz is very good. Some gamers these days insist on 120Hz, but 60Hz still provides near-zero motion blur and smooth playback. Better yet, the latency is only 1ms.

Brightness

With a 100% sRGB Color Gamut, 400 Nits of brightness, and a 1500:1 contrast ratio, the Innocn PF15-PRO display looks absolutely fabulous. As someone who is used to using 32″ and 40″ displays, the added display area was a welcomed addition to the “tiny” 14″ laptop display.

Interface

The Home screen allows you to access other menus, and adjust your brightness, contrast, and volume. There is a Profiles menu, which allows you to create up to six different screen profiles, so you could have one for gaming, and one for reading an eBook. You have Color Temperature menu, affording you the ability to alter RGB values.

You also have a Color menu, which lets you calibrate settings like saturation and image sharpness.

Game – INNOCN portable monitor touchscreen

I measured a value of 394 nits using an i1 Display Pro colorimeter using the highest possible brightness setting. This drops to 111 nits when powered by the USB port on an Xbox Series S – you can still adjust the brightness via the menu, but it’s limited to a maximum value of 20 out of 100.

Games appear bright, vibrant and clean in motion and the nature of OLED means that pillar-boxing content with a non-16:9 aspect ratio still looks fine since there’s no inherent glow in the dark regions of the image.

Audio

The built-in speakers are sufficient for watching videos, but you certainly won’t be rocking music from a distance. However, anyone that wants to blast music from a laptop probably has external speakers anyway.

The volume is adjustable, with a pair of buttons on the left side. You can get reasonably good volume, which impressed us.

How to use INNOCN portable monitor touchscreen?

the operation is decidedly easy. To cover those multifunction buttons, long-pressing the power button for three seconds switches the device on and off, while a single click while operating the monitor opens the OSD menu and, once in the menu, will enter sub-menus. A one-second press-and-hold of the power button while in the OSD menu will exit the current option/sub-menu.

The up key will increase volume or, while in the OSD menu, it moves the menu left and increases any user-operated progress bar (like turning brightness up, for example). The down key will decrease volume or, while in the OSD menu, moves menu options right and decreases any user-operated progress bar (like turning the contrast down).

The LED indicator assists with operation. When it is lit blue, you know the screen is working. Orange, and the screen is on stand-by. Unlit, and the power is off, as you might expect.

Pros

+Support for 144 Hz refresh rates and Nvidia G-Sync (AMD FreeSync is unofficially supported)+Built-in battery provides up to 3 hours of runtime+Included carrying case

Cons

-Pricey-Odd kickstand limits tilt angles

The Asus ROG Strix ROG XG16AHPE is a gaming-centric portable display that supports a 144 Hz refresh rate and Nvidia G-Sync compatibility from its IPS panel. That’s a nice departure from the standard 60 Hz panels typical in this class. The ROG XG16AHPE also is formidable on the endurance front, thanks to its built-in battery.

The aforementioned built-in battery’s capacity is 7,800 mAh and is rated for 3 hours when operating at 144 Hz. In our testing at 144 Hz, our runtimes managed to come in right around Asus’ factory estimate.

The ROG XG16AHPE measures 15.6 inches diagonally and has the typical 1920×1080 resolution. Thankfully, the IPS panel provided excellent viewing angles in our tests, but it features a rather odd kickstand that cuts diagonally across the back of the monitor. However, we found that this unorthodox design allows the ROG XG16AHPE to easily transition to portrait mode.

The Asus ROG ROG XG16AHPE doesn’t come cheap at $399, but its gaming and color performance are commendable. The built-in battery also comes in handy if you want to cut down on the number of cables needed when operating out in the field.
