Reviews & Top 10 reasons to buy iPhone 14 Pro Max John Lewis
iPhone 14 Pro Max is SIM free
This cell phone is unlocked and sold without a SIM card. You won’t be required to sign a contract with a network because you’ll have access to SIM-only deals. These typically provide far greater value for the money, especially for crucial data plans.
Has Always-On-Display feature
One of the earliest iPhones with an always-on screen is the iPhone 14 Pro Max. A darkened version of your lock screen with alerts, lock screen widgets, and the full colour of your wallpaper is now visible when you press the power button to turn off the display on your iPhone.
5G Network support
Say goodbye to buffering. Downloads are completed in record time thanks to the lightning-fast 5G capable connection. Watch, browse, and stream content anywhere you choose. You won’t have to wait around for your Instagram feed to load forever.
Emergency SOS via satellite
Apple will introduce two significant security upgrades for the iPhone 14 Pro Max later this fall. First, there is Emergency SOS via satellite, which combines new antennas and software to connect to satellites when a cellular or Wi-Fi signal is unavailable. Then, emergency services will come to your place to assist you.
Crash detection
The iPhone 14’s upgraded accelerometer and gyroscope are used by Crash Detection, the second safety feature, to determine whether you are involved in a traffic accident. If a crash occurs, your iPhone will automatically alert emergency services and any designated emergency contacts.
ProMotion technology for gaming
The 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate Apple debuted on the iPhone 13 Pro series is also retained in the iPhone 14 Pro Max, providing you with incredibly fluid animations anytime you interact with the device. One of the fastest and smoothest phones I’ve used this year results from this plus iOS 16’s fluid design.
Dynamic island
One of the most fascinating iPhone features is Dynamic Island. Having a song playing? When you swipe up to go home, your music app floats into the Dynamic Island to display the album cover and a waveform that matches the colour of what is now playing. The Dynamic Island lets you set a timer and shows a live countdown so you can easily keep track of it. The Dynamic Island also displays Face ID prompts, device charging alerts, AirPods connection pop-ups, incoming calls and call controls, Apple Maps directions, and more.
New design
The camera bump is larger, and the first difference is that the notch has been replaced by a pill-shaped cutout (more on the Dynamic Island below). The iPhone 14 Pro Max is smaller and lighter than the iPhone 13 Pro Max, measuring 6.33 x 3.05 x 0.31 inches and weighing 8.47 ounces respectively. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has bigger cameras with three lenses on the rear. The entire appearance is classy.
XDR Display
The Super Retina XDR display of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is incredibly colourful and dazzling. a big 6.7-inch screen. With a resolution of 2796 x 1290, the OLED panel has the same 460ppi pixel density as the smaller iPhone 14 Pro.
Brightness
In fact, this panel is rated for brightness levels of up to 1,600 nits with HDR content and 2,000 nits in direct sunshine. The iPhone 14 Pro Max achieved up to 1,565 nits with HDR content in our lab tests, which is extremely close to Apple’s claim. Additionally, this panel recorded 83.2% of the DCI-P3 colour space and 117.5% of the sRGB colour range. Where 0 is perfect, the colour accuracy Delta-E reading was 0.26.
Camera & video quality
The 48MP camera’s sensor will by default aggregate each quad of four pixels together and optimise for greater light capture in 12MP images. If you want the greatest amount of detail, though, you can shoot in 48MP in Pro RAW mode, which is perfect for cropping. You must first enable Apple ProRaw and set the ProRaw resolution to 48MP in the Settings app before you may take 48MP images. It might be simpler to turn this on in the camera app at first, but once it is, you can switch between RAW and regular photos.
The 14 Pro’s Photonic Engine processing gives the telephoto camera, which is essentially the same as the one on the 13 Pro from the previous year, a boost. Similar to the ultrawide, the main camera’s image quality falls short, especially in low-light situations.
The video capturing on the iPhone 14 Pro Max has seen two significant improvements. The first is Action mode, while the second is Cinema Mode with enhanced 4K resolution.
When filming, you can smooth out the action by simply toggling a button in the camera app. This is especially useful when the photographer and the subject are moving.
Does iPhone 14 Pro Max have good battery life?
The battery life does, however, improve when the always-on screen is turned off (as expected). I once had a day that lasted from 7:05 am to 11:26 pm with always-on disabled and still had 37% battery life. That included 5 hours, 45 minutes of screen time, plus more than an hour of background Apple Music streaming. With 32% power left after another day without the always-on screen, I made it from 7:55 in the morning to 11:41 at night. Over 7 hours of screen time were spent on that day, including over 40 minutes on YouTube, over an hour and a half on Twitter, over 30 minutes of internet browsing on Safari, and numerous other apps.
What is the charging option?
The iPhone 14 Pro Max doesn’t come with a charger, but with supported 27W charging rates and a suitable charger, you may anticipate a charge time of just over 2 hours. Of course, the gadget supports MagSafe charging as well as wireless charging. On a related topic, I managed to obtain a Belkin Boost Charge Magnetic Wireless Power Bank with a 2,500mAh battery, and it turned out to be a very useful device to have, especially while travelling and on days when I was out for a prolonged period of time.

Some users of iPhone 14 Pro models have reported that when using Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, the camera shakes or rattles. The optical image stabilisation feature in the new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max may be the cause of the problem. Some people have submitted videos of the issue, but we have not been able to duplicate it.
