Sportneer deep tissue percussion muscle massager gun for pain relief review

Build

It’s crafted from premium materials, is durable and built to last. It features a quiet operation and a rechargeable battery so you can take and use it anywhere.

Design

The Sportneer Elite D9 Massage Gun is the ergonomic, easy-to-grip, silicon coated handle. The handle is slightly angled which makes it extra easy to maneuver and reach those hard to reach places. It weighs 4.4 pounds.

Head

This is a powerful, affordable massage gun that comes with six different massage heads to target all areas of the body and delivers top of the line therapy at a great cost.

The cone head is intense and penetrates very deeply. It’s my go to for deep, hard to reach knots and is designed for deep tissue release and small muscle areas like the feet, hands, and wrists. It’s intended to be used at intensity levels one and two max. The flat head is ideal for general use and is suitable for all muscles at all intensity levels.

The ball head is designed for large muscle groups like the quads, glutes etc. It’s a great choice if you’re suffering from extreme muscle and joint soreness. The fork head is designed for the spine, neck, calves, and shoulders. It’s great for sensitive muscles and bony areas and is intended to be used at levels one and two.

The chrome flat and ball heads are designed for amplified intensity and oil. Just be sure to clean yours off after each session if you go the oil route. To change massage heads, you always want your gun to be off. You simply pull out the current head and replace it with your head of choice; turn it back on and you’re ready to rumble.

Speed & Percussions

It’s equipped with a powerful brushless motor and boasts an RPM up to 3200 and an amplitude of 11 millimeters, giving the designated muscle group deep, penetrating relief.

The Sportneer has five speeds. Its highest, 3,200 PPM, is identical to the Hypervolt’s top speed and offers a similar sensation on the body (and a similar force on our tennis-ball test). The highlight, however, is that the Sportneer has several intensity settings that are gentler than either of the other two guns. This was the massager I reached for when my muscles were so tender I didn’t even want to foam roll, because I could put it on the lowest setting and gradually worked my way up.

  • Level 1: 1300 rpm to awaken muscles
  • Level 2: 1700 rpm for facia relaxation
  • Level 3: 2000 rpm to decompose lactic acid
  • Level 4: 2400 rpm for deep massage
  • Level 5: 2800 rpm for professional mode
  • Level 6: 3200 rpm for professional mode

Battery life & charging

It has a built-in rechargeable lithium battery that takes three to five hours to fully charge. On a full charge you get up to six hours of operating time. It also has a 10-minute auto shutoff feature to prevent the motor from overheating.

When fully charged, the indicator light of the massager turns off, and the indicator on the power adapter will change from red to green. When it’s fully charged, you’ll get up to six hours of run time and it’s portable, so you can literally take it anywhere

Noise

With a volume of 40 decibels, this deep tissue massager is as quiet as can be! It’s so silent that it won’t disturbing others while you’re using it.

Sportneer deep tissue percussion muscle massager gun for pain relief Performance review

I was surprised to find that I like the metal massage heads, used with oil. They feel smoother on my skin, and while too hard on my back or shoulders, it works well on my calf muscles. The only part I don’t like is the messiness of using the oil and the fingerprints I tend to get on the massage gun’s buttons.

The ball head at level 1 is great. And I’m slowly working my way up from level 1 to 2 for more intensity, but that’s my own personal preference. This massage gun certainly relaxes my tension and breaks up the knots in my lower back and shoulders. In fact, I’ve found myself using Biofreeze less often when my body hurts and reaching for this instead. The only place I can’t reach without help is the very middle of my back.

Glad for the choice

I’m very pleased with this gun. It has the lower frequencies (which I use the most) that some of the more powerful and more expensive devices lack, while still having the higher frequencies and almost as much amplitude. In fact it has plenty of power and amplitude for what I need, and probably enough for the most serious athletes. I was concerned about not having a hard on-off switch, but it has a positive button so it is not a touch screen as I feared. The only negative is it is a little heavy for me to handle in some positions, like to reach my back, but the unit is comfortable in the hands in most positions, has low sound and low unwanted vibration to the hands, and the long battery life is worth it. The selection of heads is more than sufficient and the manual has a nice summary of which types of heads and speeds to use for different applications. I don’t have many negatives since it has been useful for my needs and can do the type of massages which are difficult to achieve with hands only. I wish I had purchased it sooner so my muscles could have had the benefit earlier.

Hypervol

Consider this massage gun if you also have a larger budget but you’re looking for something with more options—and you enjoy marathon massage sessions. The five attachments and three speed settings provide more versatility than the more limited settings of the Theragun, in particular when you’re looking to wake up your muscles and get the blood flowing for a workout or for gentler recovery on a workout day off or right before bed. Perhaps most significantly, the Hypervolt has the longest battery life of all three, at three hours, or about double that of the others. The only downsides are that the handle makes it tough to reach places on your back, and you have to spend even more to get a carrying case.

Theragun

This is the massage gun for you if you have a large budget and want some serious muscle stimulation. By far the loudest out of all three massage guns we tested, the Theragun is reminiscent (in sound and feel) to taking a power tool to your muscles. Its triangular handle makes it easy to reach pretty much anywhere on your body. While the specs indicate it doesn’t have the highest PPM, it certainly has the most force, winning our tennis-ball pendulum test by a landslide. This is the device for you if you’re looking for an intense experience and don’t mind a little power when it comes to muscular massage.
