Design

It offers a wide range of compatibility with small chassis. With 1.1 pounds, it measures ‎6.85 x 4.96 x 1.53 inches.

Ports

You’ll notice this GPU has no extra GPU power cable requirements. It simply draws power directly from the motherboard. However, around the back connectivity look decent, with 1 x HDMI, 1 x DP, and 1 x DVI-D.

Frame rates

At 50 FPS, the performance is pretty spot on here. Not the magical 60 FPS, but only 2 FPS off the more expensive Gaming OC? That’s impressive. Plus we’re running high settings, so dropping down to some medium settings, and you’re golden. 33 FPS at 1440p is a bit cinematic, but it’s still very much playable too.

The fantastic optimisation of this game, and its love for Nvidia cards pays off, hitting a respectable 56.32 FPS at 1080p and just shy of 40 at 1440p. The RX570 is still ahead though, but as you’ll see later, it requires a crap-load more power to keep that lead.

Temperature

The Phoenix ran quite a bit warmer than the Gaming OC. However, Gigabyte have a huge dual-fan cooler configuration vs the Phoenix which has a dinky little blower fan. Sure, it’s still enough, 68.7c is fine, but it’s clear the difference a big cooler makes.

Power consumption

With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required. It is recommended you have a 300W or greater Power Supply Unit (PSU).

G-SYNC Ready

When used with a monitor that has G-SYNC hardware installed, the monitor’s refresh rate will sync and lock with the graphics card’s output frame rate. Establishing this sync removes tearing and stuttering which can result from conventional fixed-screen refresh rates. This is especially important for gaming in stereoscopic 3D. An additional benefit of G-SYNC is reduced lag so gamers will benefit from the improved command response time as well.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we ran Forza Horizon 5 on the GeForce GTX 1650 Asus Phoenix OC 4GB to see that it got a weak set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra results at 1440p – L: 38FPS, M: 30FPS, H: 20FPS, U: 14FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Resident Evil 8 which seemed weak in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 14 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Dying Light 2 where its predicted Ultra 1440p Frame rates were weak at 10 FPS. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce GTX 1650 Asus Phoenix OC 4GB we get the impression that it is unable to perform adequately across modern games at this increased resolution.

Perhaps the only high-end Ampere that’s anything close to reasonably affordable, the RTX 3070 is also impressive for its ability to match the top-string Turing graphics card, the RTX 2080 Ti, for less than half of its price tag.

Its gaming performance credentials are undoubtedly impressive, but what makes the RTX 3070 our pick for the sensible PC gaming connoisseur is the entire Nvidia ecosystem underlying the RTX stack today. DLSS is a neat trick for improving performance, with only a nominal loss in clarity, and other features such as Broadcast and Reflex go a long way to sweetening the deal.
