Which is better – Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 5

When the Always On Display feature was active, the Pro version of the Watch 5 often had a few hours greater battery life than the 40mm version, and I experienced nearly a day more battery life when it was disabled. Although Samsung claims that the Watch 5 Pro was created “for the great outdoors,” there isn’t much about it that gives off that impression.

The Pro is also substantially heavier. I felt overpowered by the 45mm titanium casing because my wrists are relatively small. It also has a substantial frame surrounding the screen that may accommodate a rotating bezel, although there isn’t one present. The Pro fits more securely thanks to the D-buckle closing, but the overall weight is increased.

Galaxy watch 5 Pro review

Built & design

The size of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is unique and quite powerful. The case of the Pro is 45mm in diameter, 15mm in thickness, and 1.6 ounces in weight.

Display

The watch is protected from harm by a large 1.36″ display that is surrounded by a raised bezel on the titanium case. Its 450 x 450 AMOLED display is gorgeous and bright enough to use outside in the sun.

Processor

The Galaxy Watch 5’s dual-core Exynos W920 processor, which also powers the Galaxy Watch 4, has 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It’s okay that the Exynos chip is unchanged this year as it was upgraded for the Watch 4 last year. The IP68 rating hasn’t altered either.

UI & memory

Only Android phones can use the Galaxy Watch 5 series. Samsung’s most recent smartwatches require a device running Android 8.0 (or newer) with more than 1.5GB RAM in order to function because they run One UI Watch 4.5(Opens in a new window), which is based on Google’s Wear OS 3.5. Android devices other than Samsung can be paired with the Watch 5 Pro.

Charging

The Pro will charge from zero to 45%, according to the firm, in 30 minutes. When I put ours on the bundled proprietary USB-C charger when it was absolutely dead to test this claim, it came up barely short at a still respectable 44% after 30 minutes. About 90 minutes were needed for a full charge, which is a whole 30 minutes shorter than the Galaxy Watch 4.

Battery life

With a 590mAh battery, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro promises a battery life of up to 80 hours. That is approximately 30 hours longer than the typical Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and twice as long as the Galaxy Watch 4. Power Saving Mode can be manually activated or configured to turn on when the battery level reaches 15%. My Galaxy Watch 5 Pro predicted it would last an additional 9 hours and 42 minutes with 15% battery left, however turning on Power Saving Mode increased that to over 11.5 hours.

Health feature

Both Samsung’s 3-in-1 BioActive sensor (heart rate, SpO2, and body composition via BIA) and the new temperature analysis sensor are present in the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. When you look at the back of the watch, you can see that the skin-temperature reader is slightly off-center on the case’s bottom.

Though still not as sophisticated as it might be in the future, sleep tracking on the Galaxy Watch 5 is more advanced than before. Samsung provides basic sleep information by integrating data from the device’s skin temperature sensor. This includes snore recognition, blood oxygen monitoring, and sleep stages. After seven days of tracking, you’ll find a sleep score in the morning along with sleep coaching.

You must document seven nights of sleep tracking before you can start sleep coaching. Two of the recordings must be done on the weekend, and five must be from sleep times throughout the workweek.

The turn-by-turn route navigation and trace back functions on the Pro are its most intriguing fitness features. For trail runners, hikers, cyclists, and campers, GPS watches’ standard features of custom route navigation and track back—which aids in returning to your starting point—are essential.

Additionally, the watch tracks your activities, tracks stress and sleep, and provides female health tracking via the Samsung Health app. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is effective for the essentials. The number of steps is equivalent to other wearables. Additionally, the watch has over 90 sport modes for diving deeper into a particular activity. Users can activate auto-detection, which is among the finest in the game for walking.

Google feature benefits

The ability of Wear OS 3 smartwatches to access Google services, like as Gmail, Google Maps, and most recently, Google Assistant for Galaxy Watch devices, is its main advantage. The finest Android smartwatches have traditionally been a bit of a mishmash, but efforts to unify the software in the same way that smartphones have should result in a greater selection of smartwatches overall.

Compatibility with third-party health apps

For in-depth analysis, the Galaxy Watch 5 is compatible with a wide range of third-party apps, including well-known choices like Strava. It won’t, however, overwhelm consumers who are only seeking for the essentials. For a consumer smartwatch companion app, it strikes a wonderful balance. Although it isn’t officially compatible with Google Fit, the third-party programme Health Sync offers a straightforward workaround. Google Fit trackers are also available for direct download from the Google Play Store on your watch. The Fit Workout, Fit Heart Rate, Fit Breath, and Fit Goals apps are among these.
