INNOCN 27G1S 27-inch gaming monitor 240Hz 2560 x 1440p review

Design

The stand, power supply, and instructions are located on one side of the box’s styrofoam insert, which houses the monitor. An anti-glare coating on the INNOCN 27G1S gaming monitor’s display extends to a thin bezel that encircles the top and sides of the screen. The visible portion of the screen is aligned with the larger bezel at the bottom of the screen.

The INNOCN 27G1S gaming monitor is controlled via a joystick located behind the screen’s right side when in use. The control guide appears in the lower right portion of the screen, directly in front of the joystick, and moves left or right when the joystick is moved.

Ports

Numerous communication options are available with the Innocn 27G1S Plus. It has several connections that let you connect a variety of devices, like TV sticks, Xbox/PS5 consoles, and gaming PCs. In addition, it features two DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 connectors in addition to an audio-out port in case you require it. Since HDMI 2.1 caps out at 144 Hz, you must connect via DisplayPort in order to reach the maximum frame rate of 240 Hz.

Display

With a resolution of 2560*1440p, this 27-inch computer monitor uses a new generation of VA screens. The Innocn 27G1S Plus boasts a flat panel screen with a wide color gamut of 99% sRGB, which helps your games look their best on screen. IPS panels are fantastic for wide viewing angles. Through adjustments to the monitor’s brightness and contrast, HDR can help to further improve the gaming experience by producing a more brilliant display.

Brightness & color

We can verify the manufacturer’s claimed 99 percent sRGB coverage using our own colorimeter. However, because the average grayscale and color deltaE values are relatively high at 8.7 and 5.6, respectively, the panel is not calibrated out of the box. We could improve these averages to well below <2 each by calibrating the panel ourselves. To maximize the display, we advise using the calibrated ICM profile listed below.

Image

Because of the lower PPI, the image quality is great, however it is slightly grainier than other laptop screens. The main benefit of VA over IPS, which typically has a contrast ratio of ~1000:1, is its deeper contrast ratio of ~2000:1. A decent compromise between IPS and OLED is that colors tend to pop a little bit more.

Response time & refresh rate

Although 240 Hz is supported, note that the HDMI connections can only handle up to 144 Hz, hence the only way to access 240 Hz is through DisplayPort. The sole item in the packing is a DisplayPort cable. On the other hand, the 1 ms response time advertisement is not totally true. Even with the “Ultrafast” response time feature enabled, we are still able to record black-white and gray-gray response times of 3.4 ms and 2.5 ms, respectively. You will need to take into account OLED displays, which retail for a lot more than our Innocn, if you want actual response times of less than 1 ms.

Setup

Since no tools are needed, setup is quick and easy. The arm is attached to the rear of the monitor via hinges, and the V-shaped metal stand is fastened to it with a single twist-on screw. The arm may be turned to face portrait, tilted from 5 to 20 degrees, swiveled from 30 to degrees, and its height can be adjusted from 12 to 20 cm. When controlling the OSD using the back joystick, the display would teeter just a little bit. Three feet are present. A non-slip rubber foot is fastened to every foot.

INNOCN 27G1S 27-inch gaming monitor 240Hz 2560 x 1440p alternative

This monitor is available from Samsung in 27- and 32-inch sizes. Before completing the purchase, confirm that you are getting the 32-inch model because they are nearly identical in appearance.

A top-tier gaming monitor featuring 1440p resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility is the 32-inch Samsung Odyssey G7. Additionally, some people may find the sharply curved screen engrossing when playing games. You may learn more about the VA panel on this monitor in our information section.

The monitor’s refresh rate is its most important feature. The majority of 32-inch displays have a refresh rate between 60 and 165 Hz. The Odyssey G7’s 240Hz refresh rate greatly outperforms this. Samsung is able to maintain motion clarity while maintaining this higher refresh rate.

In contrast, though it is surpassed by OLED panels, the Odyssey G7 has some of the best overall motion clarity of any 32-inch monitor we tested. This results in a responsive, fluid gaming experience with less motion blur, but a top-tier graphics card is required to achieve these high frame rates at this resolution.

There is also excellent image quality. The monitor’s contrast ratio is marginally above average, and it boasts a wide color gamut and high color accuracy. It gives dark areas more detail and seems vivid in most titles.
