What are the differences – Netgear RAX200 vs Asus AX11000?

Design

he Netgear Nighthawk RAX200 looks peculiar in its spaceship design. Design matters aside, the router provides comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage for large to very large homes, even that its 8 high-powered antennas are not exposed like the ASUS model.

The ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 is ruggedly designed router boasts of cutting-edge technology that guarantees a remarkable gaming performance, and much more. Though it is marketed as a “gaming router”, it will serve also as a great general-purpose router in a house with power-users and high traffic demands.

Ports

Netgear RAX200 comes with two USB-A USB 3.0 ports which can be used for print and file-sharing, a single Gigabit Ethernet WAN port, and four Gigabit LAN ports. There’s also a single Multi-Gig Ethernet WAN port that supports speeds of up to 2.5Gbps. To enable users to maximise the fast wireless speeds, the Netgear Nighthawk RAX200 supports port aggregation.

In Asus AX11000, there are two USB 3.0 ports, which are handy for file and print-sharing. There’s also the usual lone Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. Four is a little stingy, especially when you consider the old GT-AC5300 came with no less than 8 LAN ports.

Mesh

The ROG AX11000 has AiMesh, the Netgear does not have direct competitor technology. Instead, the manufacturer suggests using a mesh extender device (such as EAX80 which is a WiFi 6 extender). On the other hand, the ASUS AiMesh technology allows any router model that supports this tech to be used in the same network to form a “mesh-umbrella” for wider wifi coverage.

Game mode

The ROG GT-AX11000 is managed by the ROG Gaming Center, which comes with gamer-centric features that are not found on non-ROG ASUS routers. And as you can see from the screen-caps, it’s very red and has a mood that’s fitting for a gaming router. The ROG GT-AX11000 has a ton of features but three worth mentioning are Game Boost, Game Radar, and Game Profile.

  • Game Radar quickly shows game server pings time for a number of games, including Diablo 3, DOTA 2, League of Legends, Overwatch, and many more.
  • Game Boost is an adaptive QoS technology that actively prioritises gaming data packets.
  • And finally, Game Profile, provides port forwarding presets for popular games like Diablo 3, CS:GO, DOTA 2, Call of Duty, and more.

In Netgear RAX200, there is no such option.

Subscription

The RAX200, on the other hand, has a standard feature set with modest Wi-Fi settings. Netgear later added the Armor protection to it via a firmware update, but this feature requires a $70 yearly subscription. Starting with security, the ASUS model offers Lifetime free subscription to AiProtection Pro powered by Trend Micro.

Apps

For most users, the Basic menu would suffice in Netgear RAX200. It lets you set up your wireless networks, QoS, and even ReadySHARE, Netgear’s file and printer sharing feature. The Advanced menu is for those who want to tinker around with settings like Wi-Fi transmit power, disable/enable Wi-Fi 6, port aggregation, remote file sharing, and VPN connections.

The ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 can be remotely managed and controlled using the ASUS router app. It’s easily the most powerful and full-featured router app and can be used to control and manage just all about all aspects of the router. You can use the app to quickly share Wi-Fi passwords, remotely change QoS settings, change parental control limits, and more.

What are the similarities – Netgear RAX200 vs Asus AX11000?

Band

Both also have a 2.5Gbps network port and support Link Aggregation to deliver faster-than-Gigabit wired speeds. They also share the same number of Gigabit network ports, including one WAN and four LANs. The two delivered similar Wi-Fi coverage in my testing.

WiFi 6

Both massive Wi-Fi 6 machines capable of delivering 4×4 Wi-Fi 6 speeds on 160MHz channels (up to 4.8Gbps) in a single Wi-Fi connection.

Both the GT-AX11000 and Nighthawk AX12 support Amazon’s Alexa. The gaming routers are compatible with existing Wi-Fi devices and newer Wi-Fi devices like Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note 10, and iPhone 11 that use Wi-Fi 6 technology.
