TP-Link Archer AXE300 AXE16000 review

Design

Situated at each of its four corners are eight fixed, non-removable antennae on the TP-Link Archer AXE300, a sizable square box.It is around 3.37 pounds in weight and measures 9.13 x 9.13 x 2.68 inches.

Ports

There are three Multi-Gig ports included with the TP-Link AXE300: two 10GbE ports and one 2.5GbE port. The remaining ones will function as LANs, and you can utilize any of them as the WAN port. In addition to the Multi-Gig ports, the Archer AXE300 offers four Gigabit ports. The LAN2 and LAN3 ports can be combined to provide a 2Gbps Link Aggregation connection.

WiFi Chip

It features two 10Gbps Ethernet connections and an AXE16000 quad-band Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. At 2.4GHz, two 4804Mbps 5GHz bands, and 6GHz, the wifi speed drops to 1148Mbps. Regardless of the 160MHz connection type your device employs, you should get sufficient of speed as both the 5GHz and 6GHz bands support it.

Transfer speed

With over 120MB/s for writing and over 200MB/s for reading, the router wasn’t slow. It could easily meet the majority of regular network storage needs at these rates.

Apps

When it comes to network customizability, the Archer AXE300 has it all. Numerous features are available, such as port forwarding, VPN (all server kinds and client choices), dynamic DNS (with a free TP-Link-based server included, but you’d need a TP-Link login account), and much more.

Setup

All you need to do to configure the router is to connect a computer to either a LAN port or its built-in Wi-Fi, which is indicated on the underside. Next, open a browser and go to tplinkwifi.net or its default IP address, 192.168.0.1; the rest should be obvious.

As previously said, the first 10GbE port on the router serves as the default WAN port. However, you have the option to switch this role at any moment, either during configuration, to the other 10GbE or 2.5GbE port. The last few Multi-Gig ports will now function as LANs.

As with all TP-Link routers, the Tether app made setup a breeze and the Archer AXE300 is even easier than normal thanks to Bluetooth setup.

With just a few taps from any screen, most users can access the fundamental Wi-Fi settings that the Tether app offers in abundance. From here, you can also configure HomeShield. The security and parental control software program from TP-Link is called HomeShield.

Some of its more sophisticated functions are available without a membership, while the rest is available for free. The features are good and functional, however it’s a little frustrating that TP-Link is still requesting further payment after you’ve paid for a $599.99 router.

Performance

With a maximum speed of 2402Mbps on both the 5GHz and 6GHz bands, the Zenfone 8 supports 160MHz connections. Compared to many previous Wi-Fi 6 devices, such as the Galaxy S20+, which have 80MHz connections, this connection is twice as fast. The router may have set the LG G8 on 5G-2 (approximately 5.8GHz), which is a little more open in my area, while placing the Galaxy S20+ on 5G-1 (about 5.2GHz), which may have contributed to the slower speeds on the S20+.

TP-Link Archer AXE300 AXE16000 consumer reviews

Quad Squad Router

Easy to configure, 4 bands with plenty of options, newer ports for utilizing higher ISP speeds, basic security options for parents, up and running within minutes of unboxing. I do not use Smart Connect and currently have 43 (plus or minus a few) devices connected. Utilizing all 4 bands for devices without any hiccups so far. DDNS connected. Google DNS servers used and using a combo of Cat5e, Cat6, Cat7 cabling. Mesh networking turned off with 16 port switch and Tp-link axe5400 as an AP at opposite end of the house. 6E devices with great speeds to the AP or router but of course limited by 1GB Spectrum internet service. 1173 down w 41.06 up via Ookla.

TP-Link Archer AXE300 AXE16000 alternative

For more constrained demands or budgets, the ZenWifi XD5 is a good substitute for our top choice because it is small and reasonably priced. It’s refreshing that using and setting up this system doesn’t require creating an account.

All three units have the ability to be wall-mounted and come with two gigabit Ethernet ports. Parental controls and basic security (AiProtection Classic) are free of charge, and you may mix and match various Asus routers because AiMesh is supported.

During my tests, performance was dependable and seamless, with some remarkably quick results considering the price. A thirty-GB game took me less than eight minutes to download.

Despite being a dual-band system, the 5-GHz band can accommodate 160-MHz channels. A 3-pack, according to Asus, can cover up to 5,000 square feet, although the speed decreases with distance from the router.

Any mesh system, including the XD5, will function optimally when the main router and nodes are connected via Ethernet for wired backhaul.

With the help of the simple Asus mobile app, you can create a guest network, split bands, schedule downtime, and use parental controls to limit content on your children’s devices.

Through the online interface, you can access additional features including basic QoS and VPN support. This trustworthy solution is an excellent deal for those without a subscription who have slower connections than 1 Gbps.
