Acer CB282K smiiprx 28 UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) IPS review

Design

It has a dimension of 25.08 x 10.59 x 20 inches. This gaming monitor weighs 20.8 lbs. The bezels cut into the screen a bit too much, and for gaming monitors in particular, consumers want as little distraction as possible. The design saves space on your desk and lets you place multiple monitors side by side to build a seamless big-screen display.

Ports

Connectivity options include 3.5 mm audio out, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2, and dual 2W integrated speakers.

The Acer CB282K comes with not only a display port, but also two HDMI ports. Surprisingly however, that’s it, no USB ports to connect a mouse or keyboard to. A surprising facet to leave out, especially amongst the group who uses USB ports the most.

Viewing angle

With the included VESA support, you can ditch the stand and easily mount the CB282K onto any wall of your choice. Either way you’ll be experiencing great viewing angles with 178 degrees on both ends. No matter where you look, the Acer CB282K will look its best.

Resolution

At 3840 x 2160 screen size, the UHD resolution is perfect. The resolution is high enough that it is not visible to individual pixels. The Acer CB282K smiiprx monitor is based on an IPS panel with (4K UHD)3840 x 2160@60 Hz resolution, a 300 cd/m² brightness, a 1,000:1 static contrast ratio, and 10-bit colour (8-bit + FRC) depth for 1.07 Billion colours.

Brightness & response time

This 28-inch Acer 4K monitor has it covered here too with 300nits and 90% DCI-P3 wide color gamut which should keep the majority of users very happy.  Alongside that is a speedy response time of 4ms so you won’t have to worry about any slowdown. It looks super stylish too with a stand that offers an ergonomic tilt between -5 degrees and 35 degrees, plus a height adjustment range of 7 inches.

FreeSync

With FreeSync technology, rapid response times, and stunning HDR, all you really have to do is make do with the rather large bezel size, and the fact that your games will only appear in 60 frames per second.

Eye safety first

Protect your eyes from unnecessary stress with the flicker-free Acer BlueLightShield technology. With Acer ComfyView and low dimming function, you can monitor the screen for a long time thus reducing glare and eye strain.

Acer CB282K smiiprx 28 UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) IPS Performance review

The Acer CB282K has a great picture, good brightness and build quality is very good.
I have two of them on my desk. Using a VisionTek Radeon 7750 2GB GDDR5 SFF Graphics Card, with 4k 2 DisplayPort 1.2, PCIe, and 7.1 Surround Sound built in.

4K video from YouTube looks fantastic on these monitors. Very clear and crisp picture. Almost looks like 3D. Monitors have good depth when viewing 4K signals.

Card works well using the display port output to feed both monitors. Built-in speakers on the Acer CB282K monitors are adequate. Not bad, but not great. They perform well for average YouTube video streaming.

Get 1440p monitors at 144Hz instead

Great monitor. Great for coding, or reading when positioned vertically.

I do sometimes see, a glitch in the display. Can’t say for sure if it’s the monitor or the HDMI adapter [Belkin AVC002BTBK] I have been using. Both are new, and I have not tested any of them with any other products.

Personally, I think there’s no need for a 4K resolution at 27-28 inch panels. You have to scale 150%-200% to be able to read anything. 1440p or QHD or 2K is enough, and probably the best at 27-28 inch segment. Those 2K resolutions are cheaper and the refresh rate can go up to 240 Hz.

You are essentially not making use of 4K at 27-28 inches if you are using the monitor for office work only. If you are playing games or watching movies, then that’s a different thing.

If you are thinking of 4k monitors, you need to get 42-43 inch panels, to be able to use it without scaling it 200%.

ASUS VP28UQG 28-inch

Screen size: 28-inches | Panel type: LED | Resolution: 4K | Refresh rate: Up to 120Hz | HDR: No | Response time: 1ms

Pros

  • VRR support
  • 120Hz via DisplayPort
  • Great price
  • Ultra-fast response time

Cons

  • No HDR support
  • No integrated speakers

This monitor is marketed as a gaming display, but it’s a great option for an everyday screen as well; and the price is perfect for anyone not looking to spend more than $300 on a new monitor. It has an ultra-fast 1ms response time for near real-time reactions to your inputs, which is great for gaming as well as creative work.

It’s native refresh rate is 60Hz, which is fine for casual or office use, but if you connect the monitor to your desktop via the DisplayPort, you can get that up to 120Hz for streaming movies or playing games.

It also supports Adaptive Sync and AMD FreeSync variable refresh rate technology to help prevent annoying screen stuttering and tearing that can ruin movies or make virtual meetings difficult.
