AOC 15.6 portable monitor review
Design
AOC’s latest USB monitor has a sleeker look and is speedier thanks to its USB 3.0 connection. In contrast to other portable monitors, which have square shapes, the AOC features curved corners and a bulbous backside, giving it a thickness of 1.4 inches. The 14.6 x 9.2 x 1.4-inch AOC monitor’s increased thickness made it difficult to cram it into a notebook bag that was already filled with a 13-inch Asus Zenbook. Compared to the ThinkVision LT1421 (2.4 pounds), which weighs less than half as much, the AOC display monitor weights 3 pounds.
Stand
The viewing angles of the AOC portable monitor are restricted because it has a thick plastic stand that only has two configurations that it may move between: open and closed. The stand can be used in both landscape and portrait orientations, and it has an integrated accelerometer that turns the screen automatically. Only when the stand is open can one reach the mini-USB port located at the back.
Ports
A cable with two full-size USB ends arranged in a U shape on one end and a mini-USB on the other is included with the display. Most systems can power the display and connect using just one USB port, while some older notebooks will need both connections.
Display
Text in Google Docs was easy to see thanks to the large 15.6-inch, 1366 x 768 pixel panel of the AOC e1649Fwu portable display screens. However, it’s a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to seeing videos or images. We saw the 720p teaser for “Hannah” on YouTube, and in one moment, the villain’s facial features appeared blacked out, while in another, the set pieces appeared hazy.
Viewing angle
The ThinkVision T1421’s matte screen displayed no reflection at all, whereas the glossy panel of the AOC portable monitors did. Nor does the AOC monitor provide wide viewing angles. We observed significant color shift on the display after slewing the device about 10 to 15 degrees off center. Even worse, the monitor’s single-position stand prevented us from manually adjusting its tilt. The ThinkVision LT1421 provides steady visibility up to roughly 45 degrees, for comparison’s sake.
Is it good for movie watching?
When you’re on the go, carry this 15.6-inch, incredibly thin portable LED display with 1366 x 768 resolution. Your movements will feel responsive and instantaneous thanks to the 5ms response time and 1366 x 768 resolution, which also guarantees sharp and detailed text and graphics. This monitor is a fantastic choice for color-oriented tasks like photo editing, movie watching, and other activities because it has 16.7 million displayable colors.
AOC portable monitor setup
Because of the integrated DisplayLInk USB graphics, a single laptop can have many USB monitors connected at the same time to operate as a multimonitor PC or Mac. To add numerous USB monitors for external displays without needing extra hardware, just install the DisplayLInk software on your PC or Mac. You may easily have numerous external screens for your laptop with the I1659FWUX USB Monitor.
How to connect an AOC portable monitor?
1. Download the latest driver from http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1085
2. Ensure that you download the driver for your specific operating system.
3. Restart your computer.
4. After installation, macOS may require the DisplayLink system extension to be enabled in System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General. Click on Allow and restart the system.
5. Your external monitor should work.
AOC 15.6 portable monitor Customer reviews
Love it so far! Works great with my Mac
I just got this today and I already love it. I use the split screen feature constantly and I’m very excited to have a full size monitor (that is bigger than my laptop screen) to work with. The setup was very easy for me. I have a Macbook Pro and I was concerned with if it would work well or not. I don’t have a CD/DVD drive on my laptop so I almost bought a USB one but instead found drivers online. The installation was a piece of cake and as soon as my laptop restarted the monitor was up and running. If I have any issues I’ll update this but none so far!
