Do you really need an air purifier?
Given the rise of COVID-19 over the past few months, you may be thinking about air purifiers in a fresh light. In home settings though, transmission usually occurs through close contact, which means an air purifier probably won’t protect you if a roommate or family member in the same house gets sick. Purifiers may help businesses and restaurants trying to improve the air in their indoor spaces.
On the other hand, for households with an asthmatic or otherwise immunocompromised child, air purifiers have significant benefits, according to Berezow and Dr. Elizabeth Matsui, a professor of population health and pediatrics at the University of Texas, Austin’s Dell Medical School.
Customer reviews – Bissell air320 vs Dyson air purifier
BISSELL air320 Smart Air Purifier reviews
Design
It is a modern device with a vintage look. The four faux legs allow it to stand firmly on the ground and keep it elevated, making it easy to clean the floor beneath it. As mentioned earlier, the cloth pre-filter features a subtle grey color that can blend with any theme or style. There is a cord storage in the back that ensures extra cord doesn’t lie on the ground, tampering with your home aesthetics.

Filtration
The Bissell air320 has a 3-stage filtration, which entails a fabric pre-filter, a high-efficiency filter, and finally, a honeycomb activated carbon filter.
In the first line of this air purifier’s defense is the fabric pre-filter. Its role is to hold back bigger particles also protect the high-efficiency filter. Other than that, it also acts as the front cover of the device. Bissell recommends to vacuum it occasionally to remove dust from the front panel.
The second stage is the high-efficiency filter, which is the primary filter of the air purifier. It removes 99% of the remaining smaller particles that passed the fabric pre-filter, which include the tiniest pieces of dust, pollens, and smoke particles at 0.3 microns and larger.
Finally, we have a honeycomb structured activated carbon filter whose role is to trap odors and VOCs. It will absorb cooking odors, pet odors, and some types of VOCs.
Night Mode: When the darkness kicks in, this device automatically switches to sleep mode, thanks to the ambient light sensor. The LED lights go off to avoid distracting you when you are asleep.
Auto Mode, Air Quality Sensor: The Bissell air320 allows you to set it on auto mode. When sets on auto mode, it will adjust the fan speed based on the surrounding air quality. This feature will not only just save energy but also increases the filter lifespan.
Being one of the most advanced air purifiers in the market, the Bissell air320 boasts of having a particle (PM2.5) sensor. Not only it just helps to adjust the fan speed automatically, but also it shows the realtime particle count on the beautiful dot matrix digital display and with a color light indicator.

What About Other Dyson Air Purifiers?
We had a hard time deciding on which Dyson air purifier should be included with our best of list.
We felt that the Dyson TP04 was the most well rounded among Dyson air purifiers (and slightly outperformed the DP04), which is why we think it’s overall the best.
Nevertheless, there are several other Dyson air purifiers that could be better for you depending on your exact needs.
How to Choose a Dyson Air Purifier
As a general rule, here’s how to decide which Dyson air purifier is right for you:
- You want the best air purification performance – Get the Dyson TP04 or Dyson DP04. These both have a HEPA filter and carbon filter. In addition, they offer high air flow (making them good for large spaces). If you want it in a corner of the room, get the TP04. If you want to put it on a table or desk, get the DP04.
- You want the best value – You should get the Dyson TP02. It only has a HEPA filter, but it also has incredibly strong air flow at a very reasonable price.
- You want year round usage – The Dyson HP04 and HP02 heat, cool, and purifier the air. They are the only models that can heat. HP04 has the carbon and HEPA filter. HP02 only has a HEPA filter.
- You want a purifier for a small room – Get the Dyson BP01. This is a compact air purifier. Usually it’s for small rooms or even sitting directly on a desk or table that you’re in.

Coway’s HEPA air purifier
After months of use in my own home, Coway’s HEPA air purifier has cemented itself as my favorite HEPA air cleaner around. While it saw great deals in recent months, its price tag at Amazon is up to an uncomfortable $250 — which is only decent for the 361-square-foot coverage it offers. Luckily, its unique design and ion filtration technology set it apart from many other purifiers in the price range. The Coway’s striking, retro design was one of my favorites among the devices I tested.
Personally, while using the Coway, I’ve experienced fewer allergy symptoms during typically difficult seasons for me. A colleague’s mother also recently bought a Coway for smoke in her home during the West Coast wildfires, and she noticed an immediate improvement in the air quality.
While the ionic filtration technology isn’t a huge plus, it also won’t produce significant ozone, as tested by the California EPA. If you want an air purifier for a midsize room, Coway’s HEPA air purifier is one of the best options around with one of the most adventurous looks.
Honeywell Home HPA300
Honeywell’s $225 air purifier is a little more expensive than other HEPA models, but it can cover a larger space than almost any other purifier I tested: 465 square feet. Despite its clunky design (this thing weighs a hefty 21 pounds), the Honeywell Home is actually one of the quieter models around.
The Home’s aesthetic isn’t my favorite, but you get good control for setting timers and checking whether the prefilter or filter needs replacing. If you’re looking for great basic performance for a reasonable price, you can’t beat the Honeywell Home.
