Built with home and small business users in mind, this compact PoE switch operates quietly, making it ideal for use in virtually any room or office. The D-Link 8-Port Desktop Switch with 4 PoE Ports (DES-1008PA) enables both home and office users to easily connect and supply power to Power over Ethenet (PoE) devices such as wireless Access Points (APs), IP cameras, and IP phones while adding more Ethernet devices like computers, printers, and Network Attached Storage (NAS) onto a network. In addition, this device can be wall-mounted so that it does not take up any desktop real estate (wall mounting kit included). Get more in D-Link 8-port 10/100 PoE switch (DES-1008PA) review.

D-Link 8-port 10/100 PoE switch (DES-1008PA) review
Design
The switch is actually quite small at 15cm x 8.5cm. It uses an external 51V power supply and mine was delivered with both a 3 pin UK mains lead and a 2 pin ‘Euro’ mains lead.
Ports & connections
The D-Link DES-1026G has 26 ports, not 24. Twenty-four of the ports are 10/100. There are an additional two 10/100/1000 ports on the right hand side of the front panel. All of the ports provide auto crossover when necessary.
The two 10/100/1000 ports can always be used as two extra 10/100 ports. The real advantage for me is that I can connect a cat6 cable from the gigabit Ethernet port on the server directly to one of these ports, even though the installed wiring in my law office is only cat5. The 10/100/1000 ports are also useful for daisy chaining switches.
Installation
Installation is quick and easy. Just plug it in and make your connections. No configuration is required. Support for Auto-MDI/MDI-X on all ports eliminates the need for crossover cables for connection to another switch or hub. Auto-Negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device (either 10Mbps or 100Mbps) and intelligently adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance.
Multi-player gaming
As a switch, the DES-1008PA can be used to share files, music and video across your network or create a multi-player gaming environment. The device runs ultra-quiet, making it ideal for both home and small office use.
