Design

The PSU’s design is nice. The coated matte finish is superb—it is fingerprint proof and provides enough protection against scratches. The on/off switch is installed under the AC receptacle at the front, and there is a specifications label on both sides.

Connector

A single 12v rail is included on the SuperNOVA G+. All SuperNOVA G+ power supplies feature 100% Japanese capacitors, a VR module, and a DC to DC converter. IEC 62368* compliant, this device produces a 96% efficiency rating, 0.60% to 0.61% at 12v.

Cable length

This PSU is for the extreme user and system after all. We would also like to see all PCIe connectors have 8 pins. All cables are very long, and the PCIe ones are even unnecessarily long, which may cause voltage drops at higher loads. 10 cm between each 4-pin Molex connector is too little, though 15 cm would be ideal. Most of the gauges on the 24-pin ATX cable are of 16AWG size, and all the other connectors utilize the standard 18AWG wires.

Fan

The 140 mm fan uses ball-bearings, which will have it last a long time. Contrary to the original Leadex platform, this one doesn’t feature a semi-passive mode—the fan is constantly engaged.

Power Consumption in Idle & Standby

The table below will give you each rail’s power consumption and voltage value (except -12V) in idle mode (when the PSU is powered on but without any load on its rails) and the power consumption when the PSU is in standby mode (without any load at 5VSB).

Phantom power is increased, but it is still lower than the 0.5 W limit the ErP Lot 6 2013 directive sets.

Temperature

It is equipped with all available protection features and the maximum operating temperature at which the unit can deliver its full power can reach 50°C, which is the temperature the ATX spec sets.

Indeed the task’s not easy since the existing RMx units only counted three years in production and delivered excellent performance along with dead silent operation. In most cases, when you try to improve something already good, many things can wrong, but thankfully, this wasn’t the case for the new Corsair RMx range. 

The time has come for Corsair to make some changes to its popular RMx line of power supplies since the competition has gotten far tougher in this market segment from the likes of Seasonic Focus GX, XPG Core Reactor, Super Flower Leadex V, etc. 

The new Corsair RMx (2021) line consists of five models with capacities ranging from 550W to 1000W, and the main differences with the previous models are: 

• Magnetic levitation fan for an increased lifetime under high operating temperatures
• Modern standby compatibility for fast wake from sleep times
• High efficiency under light and very light loads
• Three EPS connectors with 1000W and 850W PSUs
• 80 PLUS Gold certifications

The only area that needs a slight improvement is the efficiency under high loads, which is the main reason for the not-so-competitive average efficiency. Nonetheless, the efficiency under light loads is sky-high. 

The new RM750x has a significant performance lead over its predecessor, although it loses average noise output to the older model’s dead silent operation. Still, you cannot call the new model noisy because it achieves a Cybenetics A- rating, with its average noise output being close to 28dBA. 

Finally, the fan upgrade is a highly welcome feature. It boosts reliability, even under harsh conditions where most rifle and fluid dynamic bearing fans would have issues in the long run. With two EPS and four PCIe connectors in two cables, this PSU will be able to handle a powerful gaming system with enough oomph to cope with a GeForce RTX 3080.
