Build
The chassis is well finished and sturdy, and the overall design is nice. Note that the outer shell is made out of plastic, but the bottom plate and the IO shield are made of metal. The top of the chassis is composed of grooves that help with heat dissipation. On the plus side, the LED remains discreet and won’t light up the room if you leave the PC on at night.
Design
The Quieter2 physically consists of a 131 x 81 x 18.3mm (5.16 x 3.19 x 0.72 inches) rectangular plastic case with a metal base plate. The top half of the case is finely grooved to mimic the fins of a heat spreader but is made of plastic rather than metal to allow reception to the WiFi antennas as one is directly connected to it.
Connector
The front panel has just the power button whilst the rear panel includes a USB 3.0 port, a headphone jack, a micro-SD card slot, two HDMI ports, a Type-C USB port for power, and a gigabit Ethernet port. The left panel has a Kensington security slot and the right panel has three more USB 3.0 ports.
Processor
The Celeron J4125 processor that powers the Quieter2 is a very common processor for this kind of machine. Released in 2019 on the Gemini Lake Refresh architecture, it uses a 14 nm lithography. Featuring 4 cores and 4 threads with a maximum frequency of 2.7 GHz, the whole thing fits on a 10W TDP. The graphics chipset is a UHD Graphics 600 with 12 execution units and a maximum frequency of 750 MHz.
Memory and storage
The computer features LPDDR4 memory and eMMC storage. It also has an M.2 2280 slot that you can use to add NVMe or SATA storage, and there’s also a microSD card reader for removable storage. It can be used to add extra storage with NVMe or SATA SSDs up to 1TB and a microSD card reader for more removable storage space up to 512GB.
The M.2 slot is easily accessible, just remove 4 screws under the chassis and take off the cover. Only this slot is accessible, everything else (network card, RAM, CPU) is soldered. Note that a thermal pad to stick on the M.2 SSD is provided to help dissipate heat.
Temperature
The top of the device reached a maximum of 47.8°C during the stress test and the ambient room temperature was 14.1°C.
The Quieter2 uses passive cooling and during benchmarking the maximum temperature I recorded on the top of the device was around 44.3°C in an ambient room temperature of 15.7°C and the device was not too hot to touch.
Running a stress test on Ubuntu saw the CPU temperature rise quickly to 51°C and then drop to 43°C before slowly climbing to a maximum temperature of 65°C:
WiFi
For connectivity, the Quieter2 features a 2.4G/5G dual-band Wi-Fi module, with a Gigabit LAN port which provides 1000Mbps fast and stable data transmission speed, and Bluetooth 4.2 through which users can connect with wireless peripherals like keyboard and mouse.

I installed a Western Digital 500GB WD Blue SN550 NVMe SSD ($50) which supports read speeds up to 2,600 MB/s. The PC can drive two of my 4K monitors at 60Hz, but the Windows GUI becomes quite sluggish. It’s better with a single 4K monitor and even better with 2 or 1 1080p monitors. Intel graphics drivers are at the latest level. Youtube 4K fullscreen playback is possible.
I am using this device with my Avegant Glyph 101 video headset a and power bank to create a functional wearable computer. I am delighted that it is faness and silent and the USB 3.0 is working as needed. It could only get better if it supported USB 3 Gen 3.2 or 3.1 and for an lcs I am using an XP Pen Artist 12 so I have access to a stylus and it can all be battery powered.
