Design

The length of the graphics accelerator is 305 mm with a total weight of 1370 g, the new product covers 2.5 expansion slots inside the PC. The base uses a nickel-plated copper plate with six heat pipes with a diameter of 6 mm each. The heatsink sole covers the GPU, memory chips, and all two rows of power elements scattered on either side of the GPU.

Ports

The rear interface panel houses three DisplayPort 1.4a ports and one HDMI 2.1. NVIDIA has dropped the USB C port. Additional power is provided using a pair of familiar 8-pin connectors. 

Memory

It was produced using an 8nm process technology in the 35th week of 2020 and includes 8704 shaders, 96 rasterization units and 272 texture units. It is surrounded by 10 video memory chips with a density of 8 Gbit, which gives a total memory capacity of 10 GB of the GDDR6X standard, operating at a frequency of 19000 MHz.

Frame rates

First off we have researched Grand Theft Auto VI and predict it will be reasonable. The frame rates predicted for the game presets were – Low: 157 FPS, Medium: 124 FPS, High: 83 FPS and Ultra: 59 FPS. We added Forza Horizon 5 to our tests and saw it was good with a 65 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then tested Far Cry 6 which got 59 FPS at Ultra 1440p. 1440p gaming on the GeForce RTX 3080 MSI Ventus 3X OC 10GB is a very good hardware option at these screen sizes. Ultra is easily achieved across almost all games at 1440p and we would suggest an increase of screen size up to 4K for this graphics card.

Temperature

At full power of the cooler, the temperatures of the GPU and VRM are reduced to 57 ° C and 61 ° C, respectively. It seems to me that the optimal rotation speed for the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ventus 3X model will be ~ 1850-1900 rpm with a noise level below average.

Cooling

MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ventus 3X received a new cooling system with the latest developments from MSI, which migrated models from previous tops: now Ventus uses TORX 3.0 fans, acquired Zero Frozr support, covers all hot elements of the printed circuit board and much more. iRacing only, and it’s solid in VR.

4-stars? 5-stars? I don’t know. I just know that I’m coming from an old machine to a 5600x/3080 rig and iRacing is basically the only game I play. I turned the graphics slider to max (which doesn’t literally max everything out, btw, but I figure it’s a baseline for anyone who is curious), and I have yet to see below the 90fps lock that comes with this Lenovo Explorer VR HMD (even with 30 other Ai cars). On a single monitor at 1440p I was getting 300-400fps alone in testing, sometimes over 400.

I did not use the support bracket, because I personally didn’t like how it works. I read that others like it, but I didn’t. My motherboard is reinforced at the PCI slot, and I may create my own bracket.

There are no stability issues that I can see thus far. I have not tried overclocking, and probably won’t mess with that.

I’m a little disappointed with the pricing. Even big box places like BB have raised the price on this card. I paid well over original Nvidia MSRP, and a few weeks later the price is $100 more than I paid. This really decreases the “value” of the card. I marked the value as “poor”. If the card were more in line with MSRP, I’d mark it a much better value.

The RTX 2080 Ti is the culmination of decades of work from Nvidia, and it shows. The 2080 Ti comes with significant improvements to raw graphical horsepower over the GTX 1080 Ti card it nominally replaces, plus exclusive access to new technologies like real-time ray tracing (RTX) and deep learning super sampling (DLSS) that can improve the looks and performance of supported games. With real-time ray tracing coming to both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, expect the value of this technology to only increase over time.

Outside of new technologies, the powerful RTX 2080 Ti can handle resolutions up to 4K with ease, and performs well at high refresh rates too – just remember that high refresh rates also demand a powerful processor, so don’t spend all of your cash on a new RTX card without at least a Core i7 7700K or better in your build. The RTX 2080 Ti is also a brilliant choice for VR gaming, especially for high-res VR headsets such as the Valve Index.

With the right system to back it up, you can roughly expect your RTX 2080 Ti to deliver at least 144 frames per second at 1080p, 100 frames per second at 1440p and 60 frames per second at 4K. Obviously, more recent and intensive titles may show poorer performance, while older esports-focused games are likely to perform significantly better.
