Netgear cable modem WiFi router combo C6250 setup

  • Turn off and disconnect existing modems and routers. If you are replacing a modem that is currently connected in your home, unplug the modem and plug the new modem router into the same outlet.
  • Connect a coaxial cable. Use a coaxial cable to connect the cable port on the modem router to a cable wall outlet. Make sure that the cable is tightly connected. We recommend that you connect your cable modem directly to a cable wall outlet. If you must share the connection, use a 3.5dB (1 to 2) splitter.
  • Connect the power adapter. Connect the power adapter to the modem router and plug the power adapter into a power outlet.
  • Wait for the Online LED to light solid green. This process might take up to 10 minutes. When the cable modem comes online, the Online LED stops blinking and lights solid green for at least a minute. After 10 minutes, if the Online LED doesn’t light solid, make sure that the cable outlet is working, or call your Internet service provider (ISP) to make sure you have service.

Connect your computer or mobile device to the modem router with WiFi or Ethernet.
• WiFi. Use the WiFi network name (SSID) and password on the product label to connect.
• Ethernet. The computer must have an Ethernet port. Connect an Ethernet cable to an Ethernet port on the modem router and the Ethernet port on your computer

Collect the following information:
• Your cable Internet provider (ISP) account information
• Cable modem model number, which is C6250
• Cable modem serial number
• Cable modem MAC address

  • Activate your Internet service

Netgear cable modem WiFi router combo C6250 customer reviews

Value for money with consistent connection

Its been just a month I have installed this NETGEAR wi-fi router with modem replacing the Xfinity rented ones. Undoubtedly it has reduced my bills by atleast $14. So far I haven’t noticed any connection glitches. The wi-fi connection is consistent at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The first time setup was simple as well. You just need to follow the NETGEAR NightHawk mobile app and follow the steps. Also you have to login to your ISP account and activate the modem either online or by calling the ISP helpline. In my case I did that through xfinity mobile app. At this stage it took sometime after failing for initial couple of times but it was successful after those initial hiccups.

Only downside I observed is that in xfinity if we use their rented modem router they give an option to select a common wifi name for both 2.4 and 5 GHz channels which is very helpful since it minimizes any disconnection due to network switches whereas if we use 3rd party modem router like NETGEAR then xfinity doesn’t give that option to chose a common wifi name. The wifi name and other configuration needs to be completed in the NETGEAR NightHawk app and it does not give these options. For the price I paid I am satisfied so far. I don’t know how it will perform in the long run.

I am hopeful that with timely firmware updates this device should work as expected. I found a offer in Amazon for below $100 and opted for a price match at Best Buy and thus I got this NETGEAR AC1600 Dual band modem-router C6250-100NAS for below $100 including 3 years of Geek Squad replacement warranty. If I compare it with the xfinity one that I rented, the xfinity one is superior to this in terms of features like the xfinity one was made by Arris featuring 32×4 DOCSIS 3.0 modem with 4 ethernet ports, 2 tele ports for voice, 2 USB ports. But this one doesn’t feature any voice port, it has only 1 USB port and 2 ethernet ports. So you should check your requirements as well. If you had a phone or fax connected to your modem earlier then this is not for you.

Arris Surfboard SBG8300 DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit Cable Modem & Wi-Fi Router

Arris Surfboard SBG8300

What We Like

  • Fast DOCSIS 3.1 Performance
  • Easy app-based setup
  • Solid Wi-Fi performance

What We Don’t Like

  • Pricey
  • No USB ports

Like most DOCSIS 3.1 modems, the SBG8300 also supports the more common DOCSIS 3.0 standard, of course, so it’s backward-compatible with 32×8 channel support for maximum throughput, meaning that you can invest for the future without having to jump up to a higher speed plan right away.

If you’re looking at getting true gigabit internet speeds from your cable ISP, you’re going to need a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem to pull it off, and venerable cable modem maker Arris has you covered with its Surfboard SBG8300, which offers 2×2 OFDM DOCSIS 3.1 channels for download speeds of up to 3.78Gbps, so you’ll be future-proofed to go well beyond the 1Gbps plans of today.

The SBG8300 also provides Wi-Fi performance to match, with dual-band 2.3Gbps speeds spread across the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, plus four Gigabit Ethernet ports on the back so you can hardwire in at gigabit speeds as well. Like Arris’ other modems and modem/router combos, it’s also trivially easy to get up and running thanks to the Arris Surfboard Manager app and the fact that it’s already been certified by cable modem providers like Xfinity and Cox for easy installation.

Motorola MG7700 Cable Modem and Router

Motorola MG7700

What We Like

  • Simple security management
  • Easy setup
  • Unobtrusive design

What We Don’t Like

  • Combo unit limits placement locations
  • Not ideal for larger homes

When it comes to cable modems, Motorola is one of the most reliable names in the business, and the MG7700 combines its solid DOCSIS 3.0 24×8 channel cable modem technology with an AC1900 Dual-Band Wi-Fi router, giving you high-speed Wi-Fi access to the internet in a small and unobtrusive package.

Our testing demonstrates that the MG7700 can handle cable services with speeds of up to 1Gbps and also includes four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, so you can hardwire your PC or gaming console into it if the 802.11ac speeds aren’t cutting it for you. On the other hand, it doesn’t include a telephone jack, so you wont be able to connect any phone services to the router, which could be a problem if your bundle includes voice. However if you’re ready to stop paying a monthly rental fee on what’s most likely a less up-to-date modem, the MG7700 is easily worth the price.
