Differences – Eufy SoloCam comparison

Design

The Eufy SoloCam S40 is a true beast among battery-operated home security cameras. It is nearly twice as big as its less expensive sister, the SoloCam E40, measuring 1.97 x 3.35 x 4.49 inches / 5 x 8.5 x 11.4cm (h x w x d).

Resolution

The 2K resolution is available on the Eufy SoloCam S40, E40, and C24. 2K video offers a little bit more than HD and is a little bit sharper and more detailed. Additionally, the fact that there is internal storage is advantageous since, unlike with cameras that use cloud storage, video quality is not impacted by network speeds. 1080p resolution is produced by other Eufy Solocam models.

The SoloCam E40 is in the centre of the lineup; it offers better resolution than the L20 but lacks the spotlight and colour night vision.

Spotlight

The spotlight is exclusive to the Eufy SoloCam S40 and L20. Utilizing the lighting at night is advantageous since it enables the Eufy SoloCam S40 to shoot in full colour. Images are more accurate and don’t suffer from the detail loss that comes with IR.

Night vision

While most Eufy cameras only offer infrared night vision, the Eufy SoloCam L20 and S40 include colourful night vision. Both daytime and nighttime footage were taken with the E40 in vivid, fine detail. The camera has a large field of view, but no discernible fish-eye distortion.

The black-and-white nature of night vision video means that it cannot record details like the colour of an intruder’s clothes or vehicle, but it does offer enough light to distinguish face characteristics, licence plate numbers, and other forensic facts.

Solar power

The majority of the top of the camera is covered by a black solar panel, and a USB-C charging connector is located on the back of the device. Along with the mounting hole, a sync button for setup is also present here, hidden by a silicon cover. While the camera’s primary power source is intended to be the solar panel. The SoloCam S40’s integrated battery is charged by the solar panel on top of the device. You won’t need to manually charge the battery if it receives at least two hours of sunlight each day.

Eufy SoloCam similarities comparison

Field view

All Eufy SoloCam cameras have a 130-degree field of view and captures video in up to 2K resolution.

Siren

The camera has a built-in spotlight, a 90 dB siren that can be manually activated to frighten away any would-be invaders, as well as a microphone and speaker that let you communicate with anyone in the camera’s field of view.

Battery life

Depending on the length, frequency, and resolution of the clips, Eufy claims that a single charge will last up to four months. Simply take it down from its mount and put in a micro-USB cord to recharge.

These clips last between 10 and 20 seconds by default in the Optimal Battery Life mode, but you may change to the Optimal Surveillance mode to enable clip lengths up to 60 seconds, or explore the settings to tailor the length up to 120 seconds, or two minutes.

The built-in 13,400mAh rechargeable battery powers the L20 camera, and according to Eufy, it should last for around four months.

Storage

Micro SD card local storage with 24/7 and clip recording, cloud storage with clip recording, and NAS (RTSP) with 24/7 and clip recording are all supported by Solo OutdoorCams. The camera can record offline using microSD cards, and when connected to a network, the recordings will automatically sync. They can then be viewed on the eufySecurity App.

Connectivity

The Eufy SoloCam E40, this home security camera doesn’t require a base station to connect to the internet. Instead, it comes with built-in Wi-Fi and can connect directly to a router.

Motion detection

Motion zones and sensitivity both help you optimise the detection. You can also choose to set it to only move. In this case, only human motion will be picked up during the day and all motion at night.

Smart Home integration

One of the greatest smart screens can be used to monitor the live stream from the SoloCam S40 thanks to its connectivity with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Unfortunately, the S40 camera does not support HomeKit like Eufy’s other cameras do.

Setup

The setup procedure is simple. It only requires pushing the sync button on the camera, choosing your home Wi-Fi network, and then using the camera’s lens to scan a QR code that is displayed on your phone after installing the Eufy app to your smartphone or tablet and creating an account. Your camera is ready to be mounted for monitoring once you’ve given it a name.

Eufy SoloCam comparison – indoor vs outdoor

Eufy SoloCam C24

One of the greatest deals on an indoor security camera you can discover is the Eufy Solo IndoorCam C24. It is one of the few 2K cameras available for under $40 and the most affordable HomeKit-compatible camera. We also appreciate that it supports up to 128 GB of local storage on a microSD card. There is more storage space available with a card that size compared with other Eufy cameras.

In general, those looking for high-resolution video indoors might consider the Eufy Solo IndoorCam C24. Despite the HomeKit support, the Wyze Cam v3 remains our top selection for a low-cost security camera. Sadly, there isn’t a microSD card included, but you can get one with the highest storage for under $20.

However, compared to monthly cloud storage fees, having that much storage on an inside security camera for approximately $60 is a great bargain. Eufy believes that 128 GB can hold almost a year’s worth of recordings.

Eufy SoloCam L20

Compact and square in design, the Eufy SoloCam L20 is perfect for tiny outside spaces like sheds, balconies, and side yards. It includes a 600-lumen light ring. While it might not be strong enough to protect your two-car garage, it is sufficient to illuminate the vulnerable crevices around your house. Depending on usage, the camera’s built-in 13,400mAh rechargeable battery is expected to last around four months between charges, according to Eufy.

We had a good time measuring the battery life, which dropped by roughly 10% every week while clocking up to 99 events on some days—much more than you might anticipate in places with little activity.

The L20 camera is compatible with Google Nest and Amazon Echo smart displays but not Apple HomeKit. The camera’s major flaw is that it periodically has trouble identifying real people from random motion events; in the backyard where we tested it, it even confused real people for tiny reptiles.
