Design
It has a white body.. The dimensions are 310 by 230 by 110 mm. The weight is 2500 grams. On the top, there are focus and keystone wheels, as well as a control panel with the power button, source, menu, return, up/down, left/right, and OK. On the front of the projector, we can see a lens and IR receiver. By the way, the lens is projected from dust by a plastic cap.
Ports
Before using a projector, you need connect the power cable and switch on the power. There is also a VGA port, the second IR receiver, two USB ports, a TF card slot, an AV, and a 3.5mm audio jack on the back of the projector.
Brightness
At 7500 lumens, we are finding we can use this projector outdoors when there is still a fair amount of light. For us, this is great so we can start movies earlier for our young ones. The AK-40 projector is much brighter with more vivid colors than the HI-04. I was able to use it in a room that had diffused sunlight (i.e. not completely dark). Although bright sunshine would still drown out even the best of projectors.
Image
The projector has LCD display technology and LED light. The native resolution is Full HD, 1920 by 1080 pixels. I tested the image in a bright room during mid-day sun. I was surprised at how decent the image quality was with the shades open. That is dimmer picture. I then closed my black out curtains and took the other picture. I am very happy with the color and quality in a dark room.
Audio
As you can see, the maximum sound volume is 78 dB. I also want to say that the sound is really good. It is not only loud but also has good bass. The sound plays an important role on the projector because it gives the feeling of a movie theater at home. The audio is incredibly loud and clear to the point where I felt like I was in a movie theater.
Noise
The fan noise can be a bit loud – but what do you expect with such a work horse of a projector!! It didn’t distract us from watching our movies and it seems that once we use this outside it will not even be a concern. The noise volume of this projector is about 43 dB.
Setup
Set-up was easy with clear instructions. The adjustable base knob made for an easy fix when setting up. The package included a lens cleaning kit (screw driver, lint cloth and swabs). There always seems to be a little dust and this will make cleaning easy and convenient.
Apps
The ability to stream movies via wifi is a game changer for us. We no longer have to bring out a laptop and a bunch of cords (power, HDMI cable, etc) to use the projector. Now we just plug in the projector, connect it to our cell phone, and stream from Netflix, YouTube, etc. We will be using the projector a lot more b/c its way easier to use with wifi.
How to use Dr J Professional projector with iPhone?
Go to “network” in the menu and select “scan.” This will scan for available networks. Select your network from the list, add your password, and it brings you back to the network screen, where you can see all your network information. The rest of the tabs were not needed for basic setup.
I had a Lightning-to-HDMI dongle, so I used that to connect. Without even thinking about it, at one point, I disconnected my phone to search for content I wanted to display. I learned I could still use it without it being connected.
What I did need to do is select “iOS Cast” on the Dr. J Professional AK-40 Wi-Fi Projector menu, then select “Screen Mirroring” from the Control Center on my iPhone. This displayed my iPhone’s screen on my wall. Alternatively, you could display it on the projector screen.
