iRobot Roomba comparison
iRobot Roomba 960
Suction power: 900Pa ● Sensors: camera, anti-drop, dirt detect ● Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant ● Boundary setting: Yes ● Cleaningarea: 1,615 ft-sq ● Dustbin capacity: 600ml ● Noise level: 65dB ● Battery life: 75 mins ● Size: 13.78 x 3.50 inches
Robot vacuums vary in price from $200 all the way up to over $1,000, so it’s tough to pick a “best” for everybody—but my one overall recommendation is the iRobot’s Roomba 960. Unlike cheaper robots, it has the ability to map your house using its camera and optical sensor, leading to a more methodical and reliable cleaning that doesn’t miss big spots. It also uses brushless rollers, which are great for picking up hair without getting tangled. Furthermore, Roomba vacuums are remarkably repairable, partially because their popularity creates a healthy supply of replacement parts.The 960 also has Wi-Fi functionality, so you can start a cleaning with Alexa or Google, as well as through the iRobot app when you’re away from home. It isn’t exactly cheap at $600, but it’s far from the most expensive, and if you want a great vacuum without climbing all the way to the top of Roomba’s price range, the 960 is a great pick for anybody.
iRobot Roomba S9+
Suction power: 1,300Pa ● Sensors: carpet boost, anti-drop ● Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant ● Boundary setting: Yes ● Cleaning area: 1,292 ft-sq ● Dustbin capacity: 600ml ● Noise level: 55dB ● Battery life: 100 mins ● Size: 12.99 x 2.83 inches
Let’s say you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum. You’ve already got money growing on a tree in your backyard, and you want the most intelligent, powerful robot vacuum you can buy. That, my friends, would be the Roomba s9+, which costs a whopping $1,400. It takes everything great about the Roomba 960 and amps it up to 11, with incredibly powerful suction, a more advanced mapping system, a new design that’s better at cleaning corners, and a dust bin built into its home base, so you don’t have to empty it after every cleaning.
You can tell it which rooms to clean and which to avoid right from the app, and repairing it is just as easy as other Roomba models. If you have the cash to spend, this is the most powerful robot vacuum you can buy today. (If you want to save a bit of money, though, the slightly older Roomba i7+ has a lot of the same benefits for “only” $1,100).
iRobot Roomba 675
Sensors: Camera, anti-drop ● Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant ● Boundary setting: No ● Battery life: 90 mins ● Size: 13 x 3.7 inches
The Roomba 675 offers a more affordable vacuum from the respectable iRobot brand. It’s a simpler model than the more premium (and much more expensive) Roombas, but it can still get the job done when it comes to cleaning your home. This robotic vacuum has enough power to handle hard floors and carpet, and can cruise around your space for up to 90 minutes on a single charge. You don’t have to worry about it falling down your stairs either thanks to a special built-in sensor. You can easily schedule it to keep your place clean, or control it through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant for more impromptu cleanings.

Roomba 960 vs. 980 vs. 981 vs. 985
The Roomba 960 has a shorter battery life compared to the Roomba 980 (75 min vs. 120 min). It also has weaker suction. Along with weaker suction, the Roomba 960 does not recognize the carpeted surface.
The Roomba 980 has Carpet Boost which increases suction power once the sensors recognize carpets.
The Roomba 980 and 985 are basically the same robots, the differences come in what is included in the box and the cost. The Roomba 985 has a charging dock & cord, extra filter, one dual virtual wall barrier, and manual. The Roomba 980 includes the same things + in addition an extra side brush and two dual virtual wall barriers.
The Roomba 981 is no different from the Roomba 980. The color option has been slightly changed, other than that there is no difference. They were made for different markets but you can also find the Roomba 981 in the US.
Roomba e5 vs. e6
Despite the color options, there is not much of a difference between the two. The Roomba e6 comes with more accessories such as an extra filter and two virtual wall barriers.
The Roomba e6 is only available at select retailers and has a retail price that is less than the listed price of the Roomba e5.
The manufacturer says: «the e6 has dirt detect 2 (Optical and Acoustic sensor for detecting dirt and debris) where the e5 has Dirt Detect 1 (Acoustic sensor)».
Roomba e5 5150 vs. 5134: the 5134 has a silver and black color scheme while the 5150 is completely black. Other than the color modifications, these are identical models.
Roomba e5 vs. Roomba 890
The Roomba e5 has longer battery life but lacks the virtual wall barrier. The e5 is also equipped with the advanced silicone rollers the latest Roomba i7 has.
Roomba 880 vs. 890 vs. 891
Despite the price and design, there are the same cleaning abilities and features between the models except for a few changes.
The Roomba 880 does not have Wi-Fi and can not be controlled by a smartphone neither by Google Home or Amazon Alexa. It also has a different type of battery (Nickel Metal Hydride battery) while others have the newer Lithium-Ion.
The last thing would be two Virtual Wall Lighthouses (VWL) the Roomba 880 comes with. These things can be set up to prevent the vacuum from leaving an area (or entering one) until the current area is clean. The robot vacuum will send a signal to the lighthouse alerting it that the area is clean and the lighthouse will disable the barrier, allowing the robot to pass to the next area. The VWL can also be set to block the robot from entering a set area.
The Roomba 890 has a Li-Ion battery and can be connected to the iHome app and also be integrated with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
Another difference is the dual virtual wall barrier the Roomba 890 has in the box. Unlike the lighthouses, though, the wall barriers do not have lighthouse mode, it can only block the robot from entering an area or create a radius barrier.
The Roomba 891 has absolutely the same features and specifications only does not include the dual virtual wall barrier in the box.
Roomba 614 vs. 640 vs. 675 vs. 690 vs. 692
There are four models available to buy and it can be challenging to distinguish them and decide which one is right for you. Keeping in mind that all of them have the same cleaning rollers and cleaning mechanism, there is not that much of a difference between the robots.
The Roomba 640 has a longer runtime compared to the Roomba 614 (90 minutes vs. 60 minutes). Despite the design, these are very similar robots that do not have wifi and all the following features such as app connectivity and integration with smart home.
The Roomba 675 has the same cleaning mechanics as the 640 model does but is Wi-Fi-enabled. That means you can schedule the robot and control it from your phone. It is also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home so if you have one of these, you can make it start or stop with your voice. The Roomba 675 does not have a dual virtual wall barrier in the box but it is compatible with one so you can buy it separately if you already have the 675 model.
When comparing the Roomba 675 with 690, you might not see many things that make these robots different. The Roomba 690 coming with a dual virtual wall barrier and is a bit more expensive. Other than that, there are no more differences between the two.
The Roomba 692 seems to have the same cleaning performance and specifications as the Roomba 690. The only difference between the two is that the Roomba 692 lacks a virtual wall barrier that can be bought optionally if needed. As a result, the Roomba 692 is cheaper.
Roomba i3+ vs. i7+
- The i3+ does not save a map of the cleaning area; the i7+ stores up to 10 different maps
- The i7+ supports keep out zones
- It also has a room cleaning feature which means you can send it to a particular room
- Because of not having a camera, the i3+ can work in the dark
Roomba i3+ vs. i4+ what is the difference
The only difference between the two is accessories coming in the box and also the i4+ having a 20% bigger battery. The Roomba i4+ is the Costco exclusive version of the i3.
Note: none of the i3+ or i4+ has keep out zones or room select. These models probably will not get these options with future updates.
Roomba i7 vs. 980: what has been improved?
- Multimapping. The i7 stores up to 10 different floor plans and is suitable for multi-story houses;
- Now it can recognize rooms automatically;
- Interaction with the map added. Now you can set no-go zones in the app and also send the robot clean a particular room or two;
- Schedule the i7 to work in a bedroom or/and kitchen at once;
- Improved washable dustbin;
- The newer model is quieter;
- Automatic dirt bin makes the i7+ better value and is ideal for pet owners or anyone who doesn’t want to spend time maintaining the robot.
