Outdoor projector Anker Nebula Cosmos Laser 4K projector review

Build

The proximity sensor, the lens with a red accent ring protecting it, and the red Nebula badge are all located on the front (matching the accent ring). A perforated plastic grill with two speakers (one at 10 watts and one at 5 watts) and fans to keep the air flowing through the projector are behind each of the plastic side panels (the exhaust is on the right side when looking at the front). A tripod mount hole can be found on the underside, which also contains two rubber strips to protect the area it rests on.

Design

Its dimensions, 10.4 x 6.5 x 10.4 inches (HWD) (including handle height), are rectangular with curving sides. A rubberized surface on the handle’s bottom makes it easy to pick up, and at 10.7 pounds, it’s a manageable weight to travel.

Ports

Only one HDMI 2.0, a USB port for displaying images from a USB storage device, a 3.5mm aux audio output for attaching headphones or an external speaker, and the power plug are available on the back. In order to function as a Bluetooth speaker for connected devices, the Laser 4K also supports Bluetooth 5.0 (at a distance of 25 feet).

Display

We were able to project a 60″ screen from about 1.6 meters away and a huge 150″ design at 4.4 meters, which was about as broad as the rear of the house. The lens is fixed, so the only option to make the image wider is to move the projector further away.

Adjustment

Automatic keystone correction and auto-focus make it simple to create a good screen.

The projector could need to be set up on a side table, a stack of books, or—as it happened for us outside—an upside-down trug.

It has a tripod mount built into the base, and the nifty software balances and corrects the angle for you so you don’t need to point the projector directly at a wall to get a straight image.

Resolution

To produce a 3840×2160 resolution, a DLP chip with quick pixel-shifting technology is used. The chip is connected to a 25,000-hour laser-phosphor light source that is made to endure the entire projector’s lifespan. The 3,840 by 2,160 pixels that the Cosmos Laser 4K projects onto the screen are generated by a 1,920 by 1,080 pixel DLP chip using TI’s XPR fast-switch pixel shifting, just like the majority of DLP 4K projectors.

Brightness

The pictures are really bright, vivid, and clear. Because the projector is 2,400 Lumens bright, you may start your backyard movie night before it gets dark and still see the screen, which is not typically the case with portable projectors.

Lamp life

The Nebula Cosmos 4K laser light technology is intended to operate at full power for up to 25,000 hours, so with proper care, it should endure for decades.

The smallest battery-powered versions draw only 50W, while the largest home theater alternatives consume an incredible 800W. Due to its high power consumption, which is around 200W, the Nebula Cosmos 4K is not battery-powered. Even yet, the 0.5W standby energy consumption is respectable.

Audio

Great speakers support this enjoyment by expertly balancing the high frequencies of discourse with the action’s low-frequency roar. The speakers are loud enough when turned up, but not loud enough to fill a backyard. It can sound rather piercing if you’re at ear level and directly across from the speakers. Given that no projector sounds “excellent,” the fact that it has more bass than you’d anticipate doesn’t really matter.

Nebula Connect app

The Nebula Connect app is effectively a remote control, offering quick and simple keyboard input for Wi-Fi and streaming platform passwords along with a choice of cursor or touchpad style controls. Additionally, automatic projector downloads from streaming providers like Disney+ and Netflix make accessing a wealth of content simple.
