Is a Toyota Level 2 charger worth it?
Level 2 chargers use a 240-volt electric supply, like an electric clothes dryer. The advantage is they charge the EV 3 to 10 times faster than a Level 1 (120-volt) charger can.
Most BEV owners (whose cars have batteries up to 100 kWh) will choose to use a Level 2 charger for daily use so they can recharge their EVs faster, which increases the car’s availability.
Many plug-in hybrid owners can charge on Level 1 just fine, because PHEVs have smaller batteries than do battery electric vehicle cars (BEVs), no more than about 20 kilowatt-hours.
