Eufy recently introduced the SoloCam line, which connects over WiFi and doesn’t require a home base at all. Despite the good battery life of the eufyCam series without the use of a home base, I am still amazed by it. With the E40, they advertise a 4-month battery life. It does not require an additional hub for microSD card storage or a paid membership service to access footage remotely. Price

Given what it offers and how well it performs, its $130 price puts it in the middle price band. Hey, at least you won’t have to worry about paying for another membership service at the end of the month. The SoloCam E40 costs £120 and is a reasonably straightforward item. The camera itself, which has a built-in rechargeable (non-swappable) battery, and a small plastic bracket for mounting the camera on a wall are both included in the box.

Build & design

It is an extended, rectangular-shaped chassis with an all-plastic construction that is quite light and well-made. With dimensions of 1.9 x 3.9 x 1.9 inches (4.9 x 10 x 4.9 cm), or 4.9 x 10 x 4.9 cm, the Eufy SoloCam E40 is one of the larger battery-powered weatherproof home security cameras we’ve examined (w x d x h).

Ports

It comes with an USB charging port to connect with solar panel or battery.

Resolution

The camera can record video with a resolution of up to 2K. The 130-degree camera lens and an LED that glows blue while the camera battery is being recharged are both located on the front of the device.

Instead of producing 2K (2,304 x 1,296) video, it records in 1080p. When I check the footage on my smartphones, it is quite clear. However, the dynamic range is a problem, as seen by how highlights are blown out in comparison to the background. The video has also been sharpened. It records videos with a slower frame rate of 15 frames per second (fps), which is far lower than the other cams’ typical 30 fps.

Night vision

It captures night vision footage that is amazingly bright, crisp, and clear. The Eufy SoloCam E40 filmed some deer wandering across my lawn with spectacular clarity thanks to its infrared LEDs. Thankfully, the frame rate doesn’t decrease when using night vision; it stays at 15 fps.

Motion detection

The E40’s AI reliably identified between moving people and other animals with accuracy, and its motion warnings were timely. You can control the frequency of notifications by adjusting the motion sensitivity, turning on “human only” detection, setting up monitoring times, and using activity zones to select a particular area where you want to detect motion.

Audio

This camera’s microphone also performs admirably, and the speaker is loud enough to be heard. Now, you want the siren to be as obnoxious as possible because it is so loud. You can set the spotlight to flash when the siren sounds in the app’s settings. It has an 8GB internal storage capacity that cannot be expanded. Although 8GB may not seem like much, it will take many 60-second films to fill it up, and there are no monthly or annual fees.

The battery life is one item that neither the box nor the manual make any mention of. The battery on this camera still has 96% charge after almost a week of use. It is a bit of a headache to charge because you have to unscrew the camera from the mount to replenish the battery.

Storage

No specific feature requires a subscription fee to access it. Video clips are captured directly to the camera’s 8GB internal storage as opposed to being kept by default on the cloud (included as standard). Although optional, cloud storage is accessible at an additional expense.

Setup

For the majority of gadgets of this type, setup is quite typical. A 2.4GHz WiFi network must be active on your phone. The WiFi password is then given, and a QR code is displayed to the camera. In less than a minute, everything was put up.

You will be questioned about your preferred power option during setup. The clips can only be 20 seconds long with the best battery option, while they can be up to 60 seconds with the best surveillance. I chose the best surveillance for this evaluation to make sure I got some good footage for the samples.

App

An accessory like a solar charger can be used to maintain the battery’s charge, but the app also has a Power Manager feature that allows you monitor and optimise battery life.

You can choose in the settings whether or not these events should only be triggered by the appearance of people (referred to in the app as “humans”) in the frame. In order to prevent a large number of false positives being produced by movement in a specific area of the frame, such as a waving tree branch, it is also feasible to designate activation zones and modify the motion detection sensitivity.

Great Camera – No Wires Yeah!

This has been a great addition to the cameras around my house, I can now see all the comings and goings in my driveway and I didn’t need to run any wires! the picture is very clear, I was able to zoom in on a FedEx truck and see the truck number and license plate number! I’ve yet to see the battery fall below 95% at night, granted I live in southern Arizona so Sunlight is not a problem! It has been through 2 strong Monsoon Storms and is still going, so it is weatherproof from what I can tell. The light is fairly bright and the siren is decently loud and would deter a thief if you live in a normal neighborhood. So need a quality Camera with a good light and don’t want to run power to it, then this is a great buy and I don’t think you’ll regret it.

In comparison to more expensive Eufy cameras, the EufyCam 2C delivers greater options for the money. Both indoor and outdoor environments benefit from its battery and built-in lighting. Instead of the dull monotones of conventional infrared night vision, the brilliant spotlight provides you with vivid videos at night.

A HomeBase 2 base station is included with it, which manages storage, internet, and smart home protocols like Apple HomeKit. This increases battery life to six months from four, which is longer than a camera that only uses Wi-Fi, like the Eufy SoloCam, can offer.

Although the 1080p resolution doesn’t have the same level of detail as Eufy’s 2K versions, it lowers the cost overall. Up to four cameras can be purchased in multipacks, making the cost per camera as low as $105. This holds its own versus Arlo’s multi-camera bundles, which don’t offer as steep of a discount on extra cameras.

Although base stations are typically required to be upsold, Eufy’s base station barely increases the cost overall. It raises the price of the starter package for one camera by around $20 in total but has no impact on the cost of multi-camera systems.

Due to its versatility both inside and outside, EufyCam 2C is the greatest 1080p camera from this manufacturer overall. Because it doesn’t require a cloud storage subscription, we believe it to be a step above the Arlo Essential Spotlight, its closest competitor.
