Morec 32 Amp EV Charger Level 2 review

Build

Designed to offer the best of security and safety, the Morec Level 2 charger comes in a high-strength ABS plastic material. It has also been equipped with under and over voltage regulators besides the overheating protection.

Design

The charger itself is coiled up into a 15″ inch by 15″ inch circle with zip ties keeping it all together. It was rather wide and weighed a good 10 lbs or so.

Display

Display panel on the charger tells current, voltage, and operating temperature. The electricity at my house runs about 245V, so maximum sustained charge is about 31.8A, to deliver maximum kW the rectifiers in the Bolt can handle. I like the quick charge.

Cable

The cord which you use to plug into a NEMA 14-50 socket was about 18″ inches long and the remaining part of the cord was about 24-25 feet long ( i did not measure the exact length).

Charge speed

32 amp vs 40 amp charger is about 7 miles of distance per charge hour. You get home at 7 and you leave at 7 that’s 12 hours of charging. You never really drive your car down to zero miles charge. 32 amps is fine since most electric cars are 220 – 310 miles. It will be full when you wake up.

Easy use

Extremely easy to use with my Zero DSR with J1772 input; simply plug one end into dryer outlet and other end into bike. Gets the same charging rate as commercial level 2 charging stations, at least on my motorcycle (about 6 kilowatts).

Compatibility

EV chargers are compatible with most electric cars, which meet SAE J1772 standard. All of our products have passed CE certification and German TUV certification, and the quality is superior

Level 1 vs. Level 2

Every electric vehicle sold today comes standard with a 120-volt level 1 portable charger (above). These chargers can be plugged into a simple household outlet, and don’t require any special installation. Some manufacturers, like Tesla, for instance, come with a plug-in 120/240-volt Level 1/2 charger. These dual-voltage chargers can be used with either a 120-volt or a more powerful 240-volt outlet like what an electric dryer plugs into.

However, most manufacturers only provide a basic level 1, 120-volt charger, and offer a higher-powered level 2 unit for sale as an option. In order to recharge their EV faster, many owners choose to install a 240-volt electrical supply and level 2 charging station.

Every other electric vehicle besides a Tesla made today uses the same connector for level 1 and level 2 charging. So, there’s one plug for North America that everybody besides Tesla uses, and it’s called the SAE J1772, and another plug that everyone uses in Europe called the “Type 2”.
