Design

Physical dimensions are (L x W x H) 13 x 12.2 x 30.7 inches (~33 x 31 x 78 cm), with the cleaning path of 12 inches (~30.5 cm). Shark Rotator ZU782 is powered via 30 feet (~9.15 m) long power cord, which in combination with 8.4 feet (~2.56 m) long cleaning hose provides extra long cleaning reach using just one wall power socket.

Brush rolls

For cleaning edges, Shark Rotator ZU782 Pro main cleaner head comes with side brushes. Also, brushrolls are placed under translucent cover, allowing the user to visually monitor the brushrolls’ operation. Also, to help the user with the brushrolls, main cleaner head features signaling light informing the user about the brushrolls’ condition.

Lift-Away Pod

With a simple press of a button, users can detach the canister pod on the handle and turn the Shark ZU782 into a handheld vacuum cleaner. This technology is known as Lift-Away, which is what really put Shark on the list of top upright vacuum cleaner brands.

The Lift-Away Pod lets you clean above-floor surfaces, such as ceilings and carpeted steps, without having to drag the entire unit across your floors.

Filters

Pre-motor air filers are washable – it is recommended to wash them using mild water every 3 months and to air dry them until fully dry, after which they can be reassembled back into the unit. This HEPA air filtration system captures at least 99.9% of 0.3 microns or larger particles, which is very important, especially for people having issues with asthma and allergies.

Headlight

Shark Rotator ZU782 Pro is large unit with many features and functions, but it is ergonomically designed and is rather intuitive to use. Main cleaner head also features strong LED headlights, allowing the user to clean even in low light conditions.

Cleaning tools

Upholstery Tool is intended for cleaning sensitive upholstery, sensitive carpeted stairs and smaller carpets and area rugs, drapes etc.

Crevice Tool is long and narrow cleaning tool, intended for cleaning crevices (hence the name), edges, corners, gaps and other hard to reach and clean areas.

Pet Power Tool is intended for cleaning smaller carpeted and upholstered surfaces that tolerate cleaning using small spinning brushroll which is powered via small air turbine.

DuoClean floor nozzle

DuoClean floor nozzle feature two different spinning brushrolls that spin and clean in unison. One brushroll is designed for more thorough cleaning of the carpeted surfaces – it picks up and pulls out deeply embedded dirt, including dust, pet and human hair, lint, fibers and similar. Another brushroll is soft one and ensures excellent cleaning on the bare floors, while prevents scattering of debris while cleaning.

Dirt cup

Dirt cup is transparent allowing the user to see amount and type of vacuumed dirt. Dirt cup capacity is 1.3 quarts (~1.23 liters) and that is more than enough for most cleaning tasks – dirt cup features bottom emptying system, allowing the user to dump the dirt directly into the trashcan without ever touching the dirt. Dirt cup should be emptied when the dirt reaches Maximum Dirt Fill line, or preferably after each use.

This vacuum is awesome. It’s so easy to use and it has so many different functions. The lift away feature is fantastic. Simply remove the canister and nozzle from the vacuum and get to work vacuuming your furniture and stairs. An extension nozzle allows you to clean hard to reach areas as well.

You can change the power setting to full or a lower power with the flip of a lever! The vacuum is an upright vacuum. It is also detachable, so you can remove the nozzle and the collection canister and easily vacuum problem areas such as steps, furniture, under furniture or even use it to suck up dust collected on the top of curtain rods or doorframes.

The upholstery attachment works wonders for getting dog hair off the furniture. The suction it great on hardwood flooring and carpet. On hardwood it actually will suck loose hair within 2 inches where the dyson will blow hair that is near it .

Powerful and Versatile Home Vacuum

Unboxing and Assembling
Unboxing of the Shark was very easy. All the components were nicely wrapped. The Owner’s Guide and the Quick Start Guide were easily available at the top of the box and the graphics on the Quick Start Guide made it easy to quickly assemble the unit, even though there was no recommended sequence for assembling the components. Each component easily snapped into place. (The Owner’s Guide does show the sequence.) Disassembling the unit is just as simple, via the clearly marked release buttons.

Controls and Usage
All of the controls are clearly marked and intuitive. The only difficulty I had was knowing which end of the hose to use for the attachments. I got it right on the 2nd try. Switching from carpet to floors is a simple single button within easy reach, which glows a bright green when in carpet mode. A bright light on the brush head provides a good view of the surface. The wheels at the back of the brush head provide for easy turning into corners and edges.

Throw Rug
My first target of attack was a weaved throw rug in the living room. It looked clean before I started, but I was amazed at how much debris and cat hair was pulled into the canister.

Carpet
Bedroom carpet was next, which has a slight shag texture. Again, while the carpet appeared to be clean, a lot of dirt was pulled into the canister. With the amount of suction, the weight of the device, and the pull of the brush roll – the forward movement is easy but the pull takes a little more effort.

Wood and Tile Floor
Vacuuming of the wood and tile floors was a breeze. While the pull of the vacuum could be felt, it did not have the resistance felt with the carpet. Cleaning to the edge of the floor was good.

Cleaning
Cleaning of the Shark Duo-Clean vacuum with the Zero-M self-cleaning brush roll is a breeze. Especially when dealing with pet hair. The canister easily lifts off of the device and the top and bottom lids open for emptying the contents into the trash. If there is clinging debris, it can be assisted by hand from the large openings. A foam dust filter under the bottom of the canister is accessible after lifting off the canister. Cleaning of the primary brush roll and soft roller is where this device really shines. A top access lid can be removed for accessing the primary brush roll and the soft roller can be completely removed for cleaning. My only gripe is that the sides of the primary roll can not be accessed which might be an issue if hair binds up. However, thus far, hair on the roll has easily been removed via the top lid only further use will determine if there is a need for removing hair from the sides of the roll.

The Guides did not indicate how to connect the attachments to the hose.

Due to weight and power, it does take a little more effort to pull across carpet.

The primary brush roll, while accessible, can not be removed for cleaning.

Overall
The Shark Lift-Away Upright Vacuum with duo-clean and Zero-M is a powerful home vacuum with a professional feel. The ease of cleaning, even with tough pet hair environments, makes this an easy choice. The weight and power requires a bit of muscle for use, but it is well worth the effort for clean floors.
