Design

The black around the edge accents the white interior, and the widescreen display does look quite nice as long as you’re looking at it straight on. It’s a touchscreen, making it easy to use even when hung on a wall by the rear mounting slot.

Display

The Skylight digital frame has a beautiful 10-inch color touch-screen display that offers crystal clear viewing of your favorite photos. It’s thin and lightweight, which makes it easy to move around the room as needed.

Resolution

The Skylight frame has a 10 inches display which translates into a mobile-friendly aspect ratio of 16:10 and has a resolution of 800 x 1280. 16:10 is much better for photos than 16:9 because it cuts away less from your original image. The frame is equipped with 8GB of storage, which provides room for up to 8,000 photos. More than enough!

Orientation

The Skylight Frame’s stand allows for landscape orientation only, and you get good viewing angles if looking from either side. However, if you’re not lined up perfectly on the X-axis, the image turns into a color negative. For example, if you hang the frame on a wall above or below eye level, it will be difficult to see. As for displaying images, portrait shots show up in their entirety with black borders on either side, but landscape shots have tops, and bottoms cut off.

Notification

The former option notifies you at your email address when someone is attempting to send a photo to the frame, at which time you can approve or deny. You can also add people to a whitelist. The Open option allows anyone to send photos if they can figure out the frame’s email address, which I guess is great if you like surprises. I went with Private.

You’ll get a visual notification when new photos have arrived. Plus, you can tap the “heart” button to note which photos you love the most. You can even view the photos without a WiFi connection, which makes this digital photo frame perfect for families to take on the go.

Skylight Frame 10 inch WiFi digital picture frame (reviews) Subscription & Cloud service

For a cost of US$39 per year, you get more mobile features like being able to delete images on your phone instead of going through the touch screen menus on your frame.

Another advantage is that your images are stored on the Skylight cloud, and your designated Friends & Family members can add images from their camera roll. Even more extra features include the uploading of video and the possibility to add text captions to your photos.

Setup

To start, simply plug your new Skylight digital photo frame into a wall outlet. Use the touch screen to connect to your wireless network. Set up your unique Skylight email address, then email photos to your new digital photo frame’s email address — your photos will appear on the screen instantly. The Skylight digital frame takes less than 60 seconds to set up from start to finish.

How to use?

To do this, you give your name a unique Email address. This will give you the code that you need to activate your Skylight frame. You can also enter your privacy settings here.

Sending images to your photo frame via email isn’t the only way to add images. As the frame owner, you can also add pictures from your phone’s camera roll.

How to email photos to your skylight?

During the set up process, the website takes your through all the steps super quickly. Then, you can create a unique email address (something like theXhomeframe@ourskylight.com – not our email address for this, just an example!) and seconds after you email a photo, it shows up on the frame. Pretty cool!

There’s even an option to allow all photos from any email address (not recommended) to be shown on the frame or just email addresses you approve. We recommend the latter – for obvious reasons.

There is also a great smartphone app that allows you to upload photos (this works the best for uploading multiple photos at once). If you’ve paid for Skylight for Skylight Plus – it allows for captions and videos uploads.

Family affair

I have purchased 5 frames. One for myself. One for my daughter fam. One for my brothers fam and one for my nieces fam (she purchased one for her mom). The lasted one I purchased is for my nephew. He is moving to Europe in the fall and know this will be a fun way to stay connected to him. I love coming into the room and seeing the new pics alert onRead more about review stating Family affair
