Design

PRIMECOMTECH designs its own SMART chargers electronic circuitry-intelligent Chip & software here in the USA. PRIMECOMTECH EV Chargers communicate with your EV via the data connection port to gather 6 different types of data such as, ambient and battery temperature, EV’s current battery level, Battery Capacity, etc. to automatically adjust the voltage to get the most life expectancy from your battery.

Display

Everything works very well, the display gives us the details of: voltage, amperage, time, battery temperature and power consumption. The “gun” connects perfectly to the car without resistance. Very flexible cable for its diameter. Beautiful workmanship quality Let’s hope it works a long time.

Cable

I ordered the 40ft 10-30P. The extra-long cord meant I didn’t have to order an extension cord, which was really nice. The charger works fine and seems to be pretty well built.

NEMA

On the J1772 side it is the standard length to the control box, and the on the 14-30 plug side they have a NEMA L6-30R & P inserted between the 14-30 and the control box, so however long they need to make, they can. I especially like this approach because I have a 14-30 splitter, one connected to my dryer, and one connected to the approx 5′ 14-30P>L6-30R, and when I need to use the EVSE, I just connect the L6-30R & P together, and saves me from needing to go behind the dryer and always plugging in the heavier 14-30P.

Charging speed

It plugs into my nema 10-30 dryer outlet. Charges my 2013 Nissan Leaf at about 3.5 KWh, which would charge a fully depleted battery in about 6h. Normally few hours is enough to top it off. This cable charges at 1/2 a home station rate, but we have all night to charge. It takes about 10-12 hours to charge our Bolt from about 70 miles left to a 90% target of around 220 miles.

PRIMECOM Level 2 EV Charger customer review

Since an Electrician was going to charge $1,500 to run a L2 line to the garage where I park my Honda Clarity, I decided to try using a 30 AMP Dryer Outlet that’s already there to charge my Honda Clarity from time to time when I can’t wait for an overnight charge; however, I wanted a charger that would demand marginally less than than 30 AMP for safety reasons on that circuit. FURTHER: I also wanted a charger that I could easily switch over to a 110-volt outlet for the vast majority of the time. However, the cable that came with the car was not long enough to easily reach the outlet in my garage.

THIS CHARGER WAS THE PERFECT SOLUTION….It has the ability to preset the demand based on AMPS available so you know for certain you are not pulling too much through the circuit and looking for trouble. Not only that, their Customer Service is phenomenal – I spoke with David. Since I was planning on a dual application of L1 and L2 for the same cable, I called the manufacturer and asked if they offer an adapter for the 110-volt that would match the 14-30P connector on the charger needed for my dryer outlet since I didn’t see the configuration I needed on Amazon.

They were able to customize the charger plug and a 110-volt outlet adapter, as well as the length to exactly what I needed. David also explained that they use 100% copper wire so the voltage doesn’t drop on longer charger cables before reaching the car, and you don’t lose out while paying for the full cost of electricity with only part of the benefit. This was a perfect solution and the best possible outcome for flexibility. Can’t recommend this product enough! Very happy!
