Sceptre 25 gaming monitor 1920 x 1080p up to 165Hz review
Build
The stand is made of metal, and it’s quite sturdy while the screen is slim and has ultra-thin bezels. Overall, it’s a surprisingly good design considering the monitor’s price.
Design
The Sceptre E255B is based on a newer-generation 24.5″ TN panel, so it has better colors and slightly wider viewing angles than the older 24″ TN models. While the Sceptre E255B-1658A has a tilt-only stand (-5°/15°), it is VESA mount compatible with a 75x75mm pattern. This gaming monitor weighs 6.61 lbs.
Ports
Connectivity options include HDMI 1.4, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2, and a headphone jack. For 1080p 165Hz and FreeSync, you can use either HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 inputs. There are also two 2W built-in speakers.
Stand
The monitor is supported by a V-shaped stand that provides 15 degrees backward and 5 degrees forward adjustment. This correlates to having imperial control over the monitor. Surprisingly, you also get the ability to detach the neck and base alike for personal reasons. Slightly push holders, and you are good to go.
Buttons
There are five monitor hotkeys placed at the back of the monitor at the right side, which you can use to navigate through the OSD menu.
When the menu is not open, the buttons can be used as shortcuts for cycling between the picture presets (FPS, RTS, Movie, ECO, Standard, User) and to place a fixed crosshair on the screen.
Resolution
It offers dithered 8-bit color support for 16.7 million colors, a static contrast ratio of 1,000:1, and a peak brightness of 300-nits. Now, the 25″ 1080p 144Hz 1ms gaming monitors by more popular brands such as ASUS, Acer, HP, etc. do have a bit higher peak luminance of 400-nits
Refresh rate
165Hz Refresh Rate Pushing beyond the standard 144Hz, 165Hz gives gamers an edge in visibility as frames transition instantly, leaving behind no blurred images. 1ms Playing fast action games and watching action adventure movies always require fast and accurate pixel response from an LED.
FreeSync
The Sceptre E255B-1658A FreeSync range is 60-165Hz, meaning that LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) is supported. So, you won’t get any tearing or stuttering as long as your frame rate is within the VRR range, or below it.
Thanks to the AMD FreeSync technology, you can synchronize the monitor’s refresh rate with your GPU’s frame rate, which results in a variable refresh rate (VRR) that eliminates all screen tearing and stuttering without introducing input lag.
Sceptre 25 gaming monitor 1920 x 1080p up to 165Hz Performance review
Sceptre E225B offers two response time overdrive options: On and Off. To eliminate ghosting properties, you will be in a dire need to turn this option “On”. But there’s a little problem. This can introduce pixel overshoot (inverse ghosting) that can reduce the number of FPS you are getting on more consuming games. It should be your priority to toggle the options for different games, depending on the GPU demand.
Most of the games run smoothly at 60 Hz but if you are someone who values every minor detail, then 144Hz or 165Hz is your shot. It was tested on a plethora of mid-end games like Assassins creed black flag, and GTA 5 with core i7 and GTX 1080. There weren’t any significant changes between 144Hz and 165 Hz, but the FPS generation was worth notice.

REASONS TO BUY
+Brilliantly detailed pictures+Offers fast refresh and response times+Excellent value for a high spec monitor
REASONS TO AVOID
-Contrast could be better
A close cousin of the Acer Predator X27, itself once the top of this pile, the XB273K is a seriously excellent 4K monitor. It harnesses everything the X27 does, trading off very little to rehouse it in a far cheaper model.
Now often found sitting way below the $1,000 mark, it is immediately more tempting than the Acer X27, and the only real change is in the HDR; the XB273K has a slightly lower quality of HDR. But that’s about it. And considering the still nightmarish state of HDR gaming on PC, that’s not a huge miss.Advertisement
You’ll still get a truly excellent picture quality, with terrific color vibrancy, contrast, and depth; the 144Hz refresh rate means it’s excellent for competitive shooters. G-Sync offers the best adaptive sync technology, an impressive array of ports covers you, and overall it offers such a well-rounded overall experience you’ll have zero regrets.
