Molekule Air Pro RX review

Design

Its dimension is 22″ wide x 22″ deep x 51″ high and weighs 220 lbs. It comes with a 72-inch long cord.

Room coverage

Molekule states that the Air Pro RX is suitable for medical and commercial spaces. It protects rooms over 600 sq ft, such as operating rooms, waiting areas, and emergency departments.

Filter

The Air Pro RX is designed to begin working as soon as it is plugged in, with no prior setup required. It uses two filters: a Pre-Filter for capturing large particles, and a PECO (Photo Electrochemical Oxidation) filter to capture smaller particles like bacteria and viruses. The Air Pro RX can be cleaned and sanitized using the same wipe-down protocol standard in most medical facilities.

Airflow

It has excellent airflow rate of 300-800 CFM. The clean air delivery rate (CADR) indicates the volume of clean air in cubic feet per minute that a purifier emits at its highest setting. A high CADR indicates a more efficient air purifier. CADRs can be broken down by the following:

  • Excellent: 180 to 240
  • Very Good: 120 to 179
  • Good: 60 to 119
  • Poor: Under 60

Noise

Operation is simple and easy, with a single airflow knob and power button. At its lowest airflow volume, it only generates 60 dBa of noise—about the rate that you get with a normal conversation. At the highest setting the decibel level goes up to 80, or about the level of a blender or coffee grinder.

Molekule Air Pro RX customer review

Solid Product. App needs work.

About
The Air Pro is one of the higher end air purifiers that Molekule makes. It utilizes a PECO air filter and is designed to not only trap but destroy viruses, bacteria, mold, allergens, and chemicals in the air.

Setup
The physical setup is really easy. The packaging is nicely done and resembles the type of packaging you’d see from companies like Google, Apple, or Sonos. It’s well thought out and clean looking. Remove the product from the packaging and unlock the core by pushing down and twisting. Remove the PECO filter from the wrapper and put it back inside the core. Push the top down and lock it into place. Unwind the cord on the bottom and plug it in.

The app setup was not easy. In fact, it was really bad. Molekule needs to address this immediately. The air purifier has an app available on both the App Store and Google Play. For reference, I used the Android version. It has a nice-looking GUI, but I had a really hard time with getting the Air Pro to connect to my internet (Orbi Mesh Router on a gigabit service provider). It took over a week for me to get it to connect, and honestly, the time that it did connect I didn’t do anything different than the other 10 times that I tried. It just finally decided to work. Very frustrating.

The App
The app really doesn’t do much. It talks with the air purifier, and you can see the status of the unit. That’s about it. You can set up refill orders for the filters and it requests an email address upon which I immediately started getting promotion material from Molekule (even when the app wasn’t working).
The app does let you adjust the speed of the fans manually, but it recommends leaving it on the auto setting so there’s not much of a benefit here.

The Air Purifier
The Air Pro is one of the largest air purifiers that I have seen. It kind of looks like a stool, with the top of the unit at about chair height. It is designed to clean up to 1,000 SF of air space. The Air Pro is different than most other air filters because it doesn’t just trap debris, it actually destroys it. As I mentioned earlier, the Air Pro is designed to destroy viruses, bacteria, mold, allergens, and chemicals. It has sensors that detect 3 different sizes of particles. As a consumer, it is hard for me to verify these claims. The air does smell fresh around the unit, but that’s about as far as I can confirm.

Noise
The amount of noise that this large air purifier would create was a concern for me. I am using this in my main entertainment area of my home, so I didn’t want this to cause a constant humming. What I found it to actually be was very acceptable. I have had computer fans make more noise than this. The initial power on has a louder fan sound as it ramps up but returns to a barely noticeable level once it is running.

Filter Reordering
Filters for the Air Pro are pretty expensive – $150 each. If you sign up for auto-refills you can get them for $99. Each filter lasts for around 6 months. I do think that though the filters are expensive, this may be a case of “you pay for what you get”.

Overall
I think that the product is a solid product itself. I had a huge issue with the app which dinged its creditability. If Molekule could fix this, I believe that it would help quite a bit. The quality of the air purification seems to be really good. This is a high-end air purifier, and it does things that most other air purifiers can’t do. Overall, I like the Air Pro and am giving it 4 stars.

Levoit Air Purifier for Home

Specs

  • Dimensions: 8.7 by 8.7 by 16.25 inches
  • Weight: 7.48 pounds
  • Speed settings: 3

Pros

  • At 24 decibels, it’s quiet
  • Effective in a small contained area
  • 3 levels of filtration
  • Specialized replacement filter options

Cons

  • Initial odor
  • Quite large for a portable unit

The Levoit has a plastic smell right out of the package, but the odor dissipates fairly quickly. This model also pushes the boundaries as to what’s considered a portable air purifier. However, at 7.48 pounds, it’s light enough to carry from room to room.

The Levoit Air Purifier for Home provides three layers of filtration, starting with a prefilter that removes pet hair, fibers, dust, and lint. Next, air passes through an H13 true HEPA filter that removes 99.97 percent of particles down to 0.3 micrometers, including smoke particles, airborne mold spores, pollen, and dander.

This portable air purifier with a HEPA filter also can remove live organisms, such as dust mites, as long as they’re close to the purifier. An activated carbon filter absorbs odors, smoke, fumes, and VOCs. Levoit provides four types of replacement air filters, each targeting specific particles, such as air pollutants, smoke, or pet allergens.

On the high setting, this Levoit can clean a 547-square-foot area in 30 minutes. The smaller the area, the faster it cleans. However, even on high, it runs at only 24 decibels, so it’s a good option for bedrooms. This 8.7-by-8.7-by-16.25-inch air purifier contains a built-in timer with four settings, and it’s Energy Star certified.
